And Hammond Rd
You all used to actually be able to hide in that little depression.
That SUV yall are using now totally gives you away in time for everyone to stop. Most of us already watch for you fuckers there all the time anyway. 7/28/2008 10:52:26 AM |

Cops shouldn't drive SUVs. It's like they're trying to bait you into running. You'll be sitting there thinking "No way that Yukon can catch me" and then you catch up to the Charger that was parked a half mile up the road. 7/28/2008 10:55:08 AM |

I'm more of the viewpoint that cops shouldn't drive SUVs because of all the taxpayer-funded gas they're wasting. A Crown Vic isn't exactly a gas sipper, but it acquits itself well compared to a big-ass SUV. So it baffles me why RPD fairly recently bought a bunch of Expeditions...unless they got a HELL of a deal on them, seems stupid in the era of $4/gallon gas. 7/28/2008 11:02:09 AM |

^All the one's in greensboro are drug vehicles. The department got them for nothing but the cost of outfit & paint. It's probably used as a reward for making a big drug bust too. Catch someone with 75 pounds of weed and get to roll in a 2008 Yukon instead of your Crown Vic. 7/28/2008 11:04:43 AM |

Ah, that's entirely possible. I hadn't considered that possibility. The only thing that makes me think otherwise is that they're all Expeditions, and they're all '07 or '08 models. No older ones and no Tahoes, Durangos, etc. Or they could be using the seized vehicles as unmarked, and used some seized and some purchase Expeditions for the marked units... 7/28/2008 11:11:40 AM |

but on that same note, i can see why they would want to use 4WD vehicles here in Greensboro and on the outskirts of Guilford County where there are a lot of rural areas. The chance of an offroad chase is much higher than in a big city like Raleigh. 7/28/2008 11:14:24 AM |

LE always gets a hell of a deal on their fleet vehicles. Expeditions seem quite overkill- the Yukons the SHP has are actually not that bad on gas compared to a CV.

With all these speed trap threads today, you'd think it was near the end of the month or something

They probably want you to see them anyway. When you see them all the time you slow down and when you don't see them you wonder where they are that you can't see them and you slow down. Pretty soon you slow down before you get there. I used to see a lot of this coming into downtown from Garner. 7/28/2008 11:16:02 AM |

They are new and they aren't seizures. They were contracted for, before the gas crisis. You're also right on the seizures being used as unmarked. The only thing that bothers me is that the department doesn't do testing like other larger departments (handling, high speed manuvers, etc...). I have no idea if the drivers are even trained to handle such a large vehicle/high center of gravity. I do know that they can't persue (I believe this to be the case), b/c of the high incidence of roll overs.7/28/2008 11:16:11 AM |

er
Instead of 'stop', I meant to say 'slow down' >.<
And if that's the point...why do they still try to hide? If you're not a regular driver there, it's still possible to miss the SUV til it's too late for you.

Maybe. They're sometimes out there two days a week, and sometimes once a month.
I just always assume there is one there: If I'm in the left lane to get on 440, I go 59. If I'm going downtown, I position my car so it's pretty hard to see me from their spot (that is, beside and behind another car, speeding up as I pass so that I'm exactly next to the car in the left lane)7/28/2008 12:51:59 PM |

and it's kinda silly to think that by the time you have seen them and react, it'll make a difference. 7/28/2008 1:00:42 PM |
