^I thought they had english and hiragana on them

how would a Kanji keyboard work? - not nearly enough keys for that, but then again, I'm not too familiar with Kanji

^^ They have kanji keyboards in China.

I hate how the apostrophe is in the wrong place on Japanese keyboards. It always screws me up at work

well I figured that. does modern kanji not use that many characters? I know that there are lots of kanji characters (~13,000?), and while I'm pretty sure people don't use nearly that many for the most part, I thought they may have used more than can be placed on a keyboard...

I think the keyboard has the radicals for kanji and you have to enter them in a certain way to get the correct kanji to come up. I think they currently use 50,000 in China so there's no way you could have a key for each one

damn 50,000? I didn't think it was that much.

but what you made sense. type the radicals in a certain order and the computer recognizes it as a certain character - similar to what we do in AutoCAD (type in %%C and it displays the diameter symbol).

i'd like to see a keyboard with 50,000 characters

Shift+7

And just learn to hit the spacebar with the left thumb.

And yeah, China has 50,000 plus, but Kanji are completely different (not but 2000 common). I mean, you just type it how you say it...

why should it matter when your language doesn't use spaces?

shift + 7 for what? &?

what about the spacebar?

and Kanji isn't completely different, and there's more than 2,000 characters. kanji characters are just chinese characters adopted by the japanese - sure so,e meanings and phonetics have changed, but they aren't completely different

On the Japanese keyboard it's the apostrophe but it fucks up your typing speed if you're someone who doesn't look at the keyboard while typing Unless whatever I'm typing is important I just type normally and people have gotten used to seeing stuff like "I;m going to the store it;s near Heiwado" when they get emails from me

and yeah, there's a fuckload more than 2,000 characters. I wish there were only 2000 because that would make my life a lot easier.

lets think about this for a second. which is more common. 2 people in the same area who are recently in japan... or 2 people who are on a school website who went to the same school together...
