If I were trying to get in touch with someone and all I have is the license plate of the vehicle they drive, how would I go about doing that? Phone number, address, anything.

She'll be so creeped out that she's just going to hang up on you and file a restraining order.

From watching the movie "The Machinist", there has to be a crime committed in order for you to get contact information from a license plate, and in that case you have to go to the police. The DMV will not relay this information.

However, a person with connections may be able to hook you up.

well, the whole internet knows evan's license plate, so there might be potential for abuse if they routinely give this info out.

hahah naw

It's actually this bike that I've seen parked for a LONG time. Got a flat tire, starting to rust, really needs some TLC. I tried leaving notes on it, but they never get responded to. It still has a valid NC tag and VIN# on it, so even if it looks abandoned it's considered grand theft vehicle if I were to just take it.

I just want to show up on the guy's doorstep with cash and say "forget about it, she's taken care of!"

and I don't want to spend 25 bucks to find out it's a dead-end. this public record stuff usually always has a legit, free way to look up

"ask a cop"

I have a friend that is an officer, I asked him to see what he could find for me and I'm waiting on him to get back to me, but I don't want to bother him. I was just trying to find out for myself in the meantime.

I think it'd be a little too stalker-friendly if it was readily available

But I guess that's right up the alley of some wolfwebbers

if a police officer makes a request, there better be a damn good reason.

they could call and have it towed. then the process of contacting the owners would start, or it might not if the impound yard wants to make $.

Take a trip to DMV with the VIN and they will run a title search for $5.

you used to be able to search on the wakegov.com site. there was a section for car registration and you could either put in the license plate number or the person's last name and info came up. it would just say who the car was registered to though but from there you could do a google search.

for the general public, yes

there's a nice little database, however, called DCI that contains this information that's accessible to those people who need access to it. it also contains warrant info/extraditions/etc.

funny story: someone at rescom got fired a while back for looking up george bush's information (they track that shit like a hawk, yo)

true

but you don't even want to know what else DCI knows about people.

Sorry kids, I quit the mafia. that's some dangerous shit. you try having a hit out you head
so everyone go drink and have sex, but don't get involved into organized crime or become a bad cop (you wouldn't believe the number of dirty cops!) so be safe, use condoms, and remember at the end of the night only uglies and fatties are left.

oh yeah and You wouldn't believe what a PI can legally pull up on a person in 4 mins.

Searching the Wake County tax records won't help you much, they removed the owners information from the site, so the most you can do now is see what the vehicle is worth and if they owe taxes on it.

https://services.wakegov.com/ptax/main/billing/default.aspx

Change the "Search by" to license plate and there you go, but that only works if the person has the vehicle registered to an address in Wake County.

If the vehicle is parked on private property you can have it towed at the owners expense. Put really there isn't much you can do. DCI, the computer program to obtain DMV info for law enforcement, actually monitors all requests put through the system. The SBI then conduct monthly audits where they randomly select certain requests and you must be able to explain why you made the request (i.e. traffic stop, abandoned vehicle, etc). If I wasn't already at risk because I was audited about running my own information during my training I might help but I can't risk my job...
