again, in NC all you have to do feel like your life is being threatened to use deadly force. a stranger in your living room can be considered as a threat. now, if he is walking out the front door with your TV and you shoot him in the back, that is illegal

Personally, I don't think I could kill the man, I would probably blow his fucking knee cap off but I don't know if that would be a better or worse alternative than shooting to kill.

I've had someone break into a apartment I was living in. he used a crowbar to the front door. As soon as he was in, I rushed him (think lineman training) and threw his ass against the opposite wall. I told him I'm calling the cops, and to split. He did. I hid in my place baseball bat waiting.

the reason police always fire at center of mass and kill people and their dogs with automatic weapons is pretty straight forward like snewf said. nobody to testify against you and I'm pretty sure assault with a deadly weapon with intent to inflict serious injury usually brings harsher sentences than murder.
