Hi guys

Help me pick a good Gps system which can cost up to $260. I been looking online but I really can't tell which one is good out of so many in the list. Yesterday I bought TomTom One XL-S but I m not really liking it and I paid $258 for it. Also, please tell me if TomTom is good quality wise or Garmin. Thanks guys.

I have a Magellan Maestro 4000 and paid about $300 for it just after Christmas at HH Gregg. I love it. It was the biggest screen at that price point back when I got it.

My Apology to MODS

I have learned that people respond more in CHIT CHAT than the correct section. From now on I will only post in Chit Chat. Please delete my thread in Tech Talk if you want or leave it alone. Thanks.

i used to have a tomtom one, which got stolen. for work i have a garmin nuvi 260 and i hate it.

i am going to buy another tomtom when i have to give this one back. the garmin's map isn't nearly as clear as the tomtom's, which isn't a constant issue, but kindof becomes one in complex intersections between highways and whatnot. it also takes forever to realize that i didn't go the way it wanted me to. aside from that, i just don't like the interface as much, and also i can't make the voice a british female voice.

as far as functionality goes, there's really not that big of a difference, but i much preferred the tomtom.

Garmin will cost you more, but it uses the Navteq maps (a US based company) while TomTom products use TeleNav (A EU based company.) Here the obvious is true, the US company has better US maps - more up-to-date, and the Garmin products have a better overall routing engine in them.

Basically just take your money and come back with a Garmin for $260. TomTom I've never been happy with...

If you can wait, I would hang around for the 600w or newer. The bluetooth connection syncs to your phone. Then you can play music, make voice phone calls, or dial Points Of Interest straight from the Garmin GUI. Think being in Nashville or something, wanting a steak, and the Garmin calling the nearest steakhouse all via voice command. It's a beautiful thing.

otherwise it's worthless.
