Been researching this a bit and theres very little info online (that I can find) and the info regarding legalities involved is vague and differing....
Heres my question:
I'm thinking about moving to Costa Rica- I noticed they have some pretty sweet wildlife such as Spider monkeys, capuchin monkeys, coutimundi, macaws, parrots, iguanas, etc in abundance there. How would one go about catching such creatures (no laws down there against it) and selling in the US.
Theres a whole lot of info online saying that it is illegal to buy a monkey or coutimundi from oversees but also articles trying to stop the importation of wildlife from south/central america.
I mean- these animals are sold in pet stores, on craigslist, etc... They have to come from somewhere ya know? There is someone that the pet store orders from who must either be a breader or know someone who ships them up to the US.
If you look at the cost ($2000-$20,000) to purchase some of these species, it could be a very profitable business.
In short- How would one go about "legally" and "ligitimately" importin exotic wildlife into the US? 8/6/2008 3:28:30 AM |

Leave the wild endangered animals alone Most of them are illegal to import anyway. The ones you see in the States were bred in the States, at least for parrots. 8/6/2008 5:38:28 AM |

leave the animals alone.
It sounds like you don't really care about them, you just want to make money from them. Did you also research how these animals are as pets? They are wild, they don't make good pets for most people. 8/6/2008 9:33:24 AM |

^thats what I'm trying to figure out to an extent... Where to get started with that type of shit.
And to all the tree huggin cry babies.... None of thespecies are endangered, all have previously been imported for sale, and all it comes down to is that someone is going to do it anyways... why not myself?

dude, they steal baby monkeys away from their mothers in the wild just so people could have a pet. you dont think that has any long term effects on the well being of the primate? 8/6/2008 2:22:37 PM |
