Is there a way to do this without a proprietary tool?

I don't think so, dude. You'd just end up destroying the coax in the process, so you might as well just clip it and re-terminate

I don't have any coaxial connectors. what about the crimped kind? can they be forcefully recrimped in a pinch?

No, once they've been crimped and removed, they'll never fit right again. Also, you can't get a good crimp with just pliers, you need a hex crimper.

What exactly are you trying to do?

trying to grab OTA HD using a pos antenna that worked two nights ago by extending it outside. The only RG6 I have that is long enough has an end busted off. I rigged something up with some electrical tape that seems like it might work for the night.

Well, since I'm guessing you don't want to buy a tool to only use once, you could buy the twist-on F connectors. I think you can get them in packs of 2 at RadioShack pretty cheap.

Lowe's and Home Depot also sell twist-on type connectors.

Twist-on ends are going to be inferior to a crimp-on end, but they work in a pinch. You can get a decent compression tool fairly cheap at these places too - granted, you still may not want to shell out the money, but it's not that bad for one you'll use now and then.

eh, I have RJ45 crimpers, I just never need to crimp these things. The whole situation was just temporary and doesn't even warrant making a trip to Lowes or rat shack for twist ons. I actually popped a previously crimped end off of another cable and forced it to work for me.

I have OTA HD again with my pos antenna.

nah, the plastic instert that gets squeezed is a one time use thing, and if it has a rubber o-ring then its toast too... only 40cents each, buy a few more and start over.
