Please stand to claim your free pass back to Mexico
Quote : | "The Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) will encourage the nation's roughly 12 million undocumented immigrants to voluntarily turn themselves into immigration authorities for deportation in the coming months in an unorthodox new program designed to help the agency combat unauthorized immigration.
Entitled 'Operation Scheduled Departure,' the still-unannounced program would allow undocumented immigrants without criminal records to turn themselves in at Immigration and Customs Enforcement offices nationwide. In exchange for 'self-deporting', the immigrants would be processed and get a few weeks to pack their belongings and get their affairs in order before leaving the country - without being put in a detention facility. having worked with a number of illegal immigrants, i must say that they find the US gov't completely laughable
it's just plain hilarious to talk to them
one of the mexicans i worked with FLEW into the US sitting beside people returning from vacation in cancun

They should offer them minimum wage to turn themselves in. They'd flock by the thousands.

There was a good article in the Independent recently about Mexican immigrants returning to Mexico because of enforcement and the economy

Apparently there is a HUGE immigration crackdown happening. I heard something in the neighborhood of 3,000 illegal immigrants were snatched up in Charlotte last week.
There's supposed to be a focused effort in Raleigh this weekend, to the point where some amigos are staying home from work tomorrow 8/7/2008 2:58:28 PM |

They send a lot of the money they make back home, so that's not helping the economy either. Well, between that and going to the store and buying 40's when they get paid.
^ true. Everyone else thinks they're "too good" to do most of the jobs.

Yes, money being made in the US and sent to Mexico, Guatemala, etc. is not good for our economy.
But what a lot of people don't realize is that Latin American labor is literally the backbone of the construction industry. They're willing to work longer hours, they don't complain as much, and they are quite often willing to work harder than your average whitey for less money.
If residential / commercial properties are able to be built less expensively, they can be sold at a more reasonable price. If they really do put a stop to it completely (which would be nearly impossible), we'd be fucked completely
Point being that the declining availability of Latino labor will be nothing but detrimental to the already struggling real estate market

The immigration crackdown started in Raleigh today.....they locked down a Wal Mart and require identification to let people leave. Seems like the type of shit that incites riots....this is crazy 8/7/2008 4:58:40 PM |

and by what do you mean that no one will do the work that illegals are willing to do? of course we are willing to do the work...we just don't HAVE to. if there were no mexicans in this country, all the high school drop outs and inbreds would be doing the work (building, cleaning, cutting grass) instead of sitting back and sucking off the gov't. 8/7/2008 5:19:16 PM |

why just mexico, we can eliminate the towelheads, indians, and chinks too; that way if we have to do the shitty work that mexicans were doing at least the smart whiteys can be doctors and engineers again 8/8/2008 3:49:19 PM |

^Eliminate the upper end white collar competition for the honkies of average intelligence / motivation? I like where this is going
^^Actually I wasn't even joking. Someone that I work with (legal alien) got a call from his wife who was freaking out when she heard about it. I guess they still have a large amount of friends that are illegals. I can't find anything in the news about it yet but it may be one of those things that gets swept under the rug.
Maybe it's just rumors circulating throughout the Mexican community but it has these people scared to leave the house. A friend of mine in construction basically had to shut down several jobs today because the amigos are so shook by this crackdown they wouldn't even show up to work...and these are some dudes that work like 60 hrs a week no sweat

sorta. if the people in charge didn't want to cut people out to increase their wallet size, it wouldn't be so bad. they figured out that they can get mexicans to do it cheaper, (the lesser quality work is no big deal to them) and charge the same price.
that's only less expensive to them, the cost savings isn't passed down.8/8/2008 5:28:08 PM |

There is plenty of articles on google about lawsuits because of wrongful arrests or other loopholes against immigrants, it seems to be just costing the taxpayers money when the government tries to make a "statement" such as going into a WalMart to pick mexicans up.
