Summer X Games events X-Venture (Adventure Race) BMX Freestyle Flatland Downhill BMX Vert Doubles Dirt Jumping Surfing Aggressive In-Line Skating Bungee jumping Skateboard *Vert Doubles *Best Trick *Vert Best Trick *Downhill Wakeboarding Barefoot Jumping Sportclimbing Skysurfing Street Luge
I was watching the x-games for the first time in awhile with a buddy at Flying Saucer last friday night and we were sitting there talking and i was like "dude when is the street luge?" and he was like "damn, 1998, where have you been? no one luges anymore" so that got me thinking about the defunct X-game sports.
especially in-lane skaters, do people still rollerblade anymore? or did that finally die off? I'm hoping it did.
and wakeboarding, why the hell was that taken away? Its as popular as ever.
But man, the street luge was always the shit. bring that back! What else do you want brought back? 8/7/2008 1:21:28 PM |

^^yeah i noticed that too. X-Games used to take on a whole week and two full weekends it seemed like.
I watched some of Winter - X which i've always like a bit more and it seemed like it was a whole week this year.
But man, the summer games are lacking bad without any watersports. 8/7/2008 1:25:59 PM |

It had more to do with sites than popularity of the sport. Finding a site to host the wakeboarding event that would accommodate the other events and fit in with their urban theme just wasn't working.
Ok, defunct sports: Land luge. Good riddance. That was stupid as hell. Sky Surfing. WTF? That shit was awful.
But the ultimate in terrible ideas... Bungee jumping. There, I said it. That may just be the stupidest thing I've ever seen. "Hey, I'm going to hook a bungee cord to my jet ski and jump off a platform with it. First place here I come!!!"

^^^yeah i agree with you about most of those.
but man, the street luge was AWESOME! sumfoo1 and us neighborhood kids had homemade luges for years we used to race down the big hill. Probably the most dangerous thing ever since it was sans helmets, but it was the late 90's and nobody gave a fuck back then.
foo1's was always the fastest.
I would have liked to seen some watersports(har har) though. It just isn't summer without them

Bombing hills is fun. Watching losers in spandex bomb hills = not so fun. IMO. 8/7/2008 1:34:34 PM |

What's the hardest part about in-line skating?
Telling your parents you're gay.

i never could take in-liners seriously. I rollerbladed when i played ice hockey but the whole extreme aspect of it made me laugh. 8/7/2008 1:40:43 PM |

how the hell is bungee jumping a sport? you just fall and keep your arms wrapped around your chest. how would you even score that?
no score= not a sport. hell, half these things can't be considered a sport because of all the subjective judging that goes on. 8/7/2008 3:07:00 PM |
