electric. if you get razor burn you probably have sensitive skin. i suggest manning up and dealing with it.

lcurrently mach 3 out of laziness

before that, old school safety razor (single interchangeable blade) (not a straight razor)

Really, it's all about method.

i kinda like the mach over the quatro as well. and my sink sucks so the mach gets less clogged with stubble

I have a Gillette Fusion that works great (in the rare event that I shave, I usually just trim down to a more manageable beard).

Mach 3 worked good too, especially the turbo.

The quattro kind of sucked IMO.

The Fusion has never gotten stubble lodged in it, it always washes out easily under water. With the mach 3 I was always having to run a washcloth over it to get the hair out.

That's the main reason I prefer the fusion, it doesn't seem to trim any closer (they both work fine for that)

I use the Gillette Fusion with the expensive blades. I get razor burn if I shave well two days in a row. A little trick I've started doing is only shaving closely for important things like dates or something I want to look good and have a close shave for. If I'm just shaving for work then fuck it, I'll do a shitty job and they can deal with it. They can just think I have a fast growing beard. This goes for my face. I also use Neutrogena Shave Cream on my head and face and that's really good.

When I shave my head every couple of days I always have to do a good job on that or else it looks really shitty.

^^ I have one with suction cups on it and it's plastic so if it falls it won't break. Stick it to my shower enclosure and good to go.

mach 3... fairly cheap and there is no need for more blades than that. the secret is very short strokes and rinse your blade very often.

i just started using a safety razor, good shit when i don't have time to use the straight blade.

straight blades are GREAT, but require time to learn.

i have MUCH less irritation than with multi bladed razors.

also shaving cream doesn't work for me anymore, regular bar soap is great.

[Edited on August 7, 2008 at 11:10 PM. Reason : mach 3 is fine though, i have them in my travel bag.]

I was going good with just the Fusion/Aveeno/Nevia combo but then I tried some fancy Grooming Lounge kit and while it gives me a super close shave, my skin gets irritated all day.

my beard is thick as shit and dark, so electric razors are useless. outside of a straight razor, Mach 3 is really the only option for me. and even after I shave with a Mach 3, it still looks like I have a shadow.

I really want to switch to a safety razor and a good badger brush and soap. But, due to funds, I am currently on the Quattro and spray can shaving cream.

I have found that stepping right out of a hot shower and directly in front of the sink to shave leaving my face wet and hot, making sure I apply the shaving cream against the grain and shaving with the grain, plus rinsing with cold water have really helped with razor burn.

And, as bad as it is, I find that using an after shave like Old Spice really helps out too.

Shaving everyday also keeps the length of the stubble down and pulls less on your face when shaving thereby helping to reduce irritation.

I just recently switched back from a Fusion to a Mach 3. I just felt that the Fusion wasn't any better than the Mach 3. Plus it cost more so I said screw it.

Also, I shave in the shower. I have a shower mirror so its easy. I don't get a closer shave the shower, but less chance for irritation or razor burn. Also, I usually shave every other day. Stubble doesn't get too long that it bothers me when I shave, and the extra day gives my skin some relief.

I lucked out. We have mirrors on the sliding door of the shower...for some reason the angle of it or its proximity to the heat of the shower allows it to stay clean. The rest of the mirrors in the bathroom get fogged up when I open the sliding door.
