at least in badminton you can try as hard as you want. Race walking is mostly about avoiding breaking in to a run from the looks of it.

i have a couple of friends who are all about dressage

i've seen exactly one routine ever that i found interesting

and it was because you could see that the horse was obviously connecting with the music, not just rhythmically, but in dynamics as well

which is fascinating to me

but it's still not a sport
