that's why they're always high
it slows them down enough to coexist in our society
otherwise their lives would fly by us - we'd be as statues to them

my post in the sports talk thread:
Usain "Lightinign" Bolt, wins gold with 9.69 sec, breaks his own world record of 9.72 sec.
He was waaaay ahead of everybody else. The 2nd place dude clocked 9.89 sec, which means he was almost 2.5 meters behind Bolt That's the largest margin of victory in the Olympic 100 m sprint in the past 40 years!
But if you think that's great, consider this:
Quote : | "Even though his left shoelace was dangling, the knot undone. Even though he skidded out of the starting blocks with the seventh-slowest reaction time in the eight-man final." |
DAMN
Imagine if he had the fastest or 2nd fastest reaction time... he could have gone as low as 9.59 sec, or lower!
Asafa Powell, the other Jamaican, who held the world record before Bolt till just a few months back, came in 5th. And Tyson Gay, who ran the 9.68 run with a headwind of 4 m/s just a couple of months back, couldn't even make the finals, and came in 5th in the semis.
Here is a really good and funny read... read it even if you don't care much about the 100 m sprint:
http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/beijing/track_field/news;_ylt=ApQ9aXgUyJ3h0jCDJnf7F43Q1Zl4?slug=ap-ath-trackandfield
Oh and the dude is 6 foot 5 inches tall!
I can't wait to see what he does with the 200 m on Wednesday... it is about time Michael Johnson's record came tumbling down!8/16/2008 11:57:50 PM |

Breaks 12 year old WR set by Michael Johnson (and Michael had broken a ~20 year old record!). So seems like the 100 m WR gets broken every 2-3 years, but the 200 m takes 10-20 years!
Anyway, his time was 19.30 sec, and the previous record was 19.32 sec.
He was 5th off the blocks, but still won by the BIGGEST EVER margin in the 200 m Olynpic sprint: 0.66 seconds!
That translates to.... 7 meters!!! (ahead of the 2nd place winner)
This is what he said when he won:
Quote : | ""I just blew my mind and blew the world's mind," Bolt said. " |
