hah, I was sitting outside of a restaurant earlier talking to my friend about school when we were in animal science. . . this lady overheard our conversation
"oh you guys were in animal science?"
"yes, we were"
"oh so they taught you how to kill animals?"
" . . . . . ?"
"I'm a vegan by the way"

You can get a yummy vegan meal at Red Robins. They do have vegan burgers there. (At most locations at least)

"There's no such thing as "happy cows" that are raised to produce meat and dairy. On dairy factory farms, my baby is taken from me right after birth. This is profoundly upsetting to both of us. My calf will soon be sold as "veal." For months to follow, I'm hooked up to machines that take all of the milk that nature intended for my baby, and is instead sold to humans who have already been weaned from the mothers of their own species. When I'm no longer able to have babies to make more milk for humans, I too will be sold as "ground beef.""

Ok.... they fail to mention that at many dairy farms the cows MILK THEMSELVES! They voluntarily walk up to an automated milking machine and the machine is usually set up so that the cows can be around each other while they're milked. This way the cows don't get separated from the herd, which can cause stress.

Stress = bad milk.

As far as the baby being taken from the cow; it's a fucking cow, it's stupid as hell. They appeal to human motherly emotions rather than to reason.

Also note that if they don't milk the cow it becomes incredibly uncomfortable.

When cows are slaughtered a machine gives them a big hug which let's them face their inevitable death silently.

I would think, that if you're hard core enough to be vegan, that you'd avoid places whose primary means of business was the sale of beef products. Y'know, just saying . . .

Also, WTF is up with "cruelty-free" and Christianity? The Old Testament is all about some animal sacrifice and the means by which God chose to save humanity according to Christian teaching, was a human sacrifice. There isn't exactly a cruelty free precedent in the Judeo-Christian past.

And yet, if vegans and vegetarians don't support restaurants that go out of their way to offer a vegan option, then these places will take it off the menu and be reluctant to offer it again in the future. It's nice to have an option of a meal when you're out to eat with friends.

Technically, as a Christian, I see the Old Testament was kind of made obsolete.

So any real basis for vegetarianism/vegan should be drawn from the New Testament.

ok, I'll buy that.

Genesis 1:29
Quote :
"Then God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you;"

and yet . . .

Genesis 22:13
Quote :
"Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son."

So while quoting the pre-fall commandments of God in defense of veganism might be fun, it doesn't change the fact that God, not even a whole book later, asks a man to kill his own son and then goes, "oh, just kidding, here's a ram, kill that instead." Right.

I'm a Christian too and since the verse I listed is from the garden of eden, I don't really consider it part of the Law. That's the part of the OT that Christ fulfilled for us. We shouldn't just ignore the OT completely. There's more to it than the parts describing the Law.

Don't get me wrong, I don't quote that verse as a reason that every Christian should be vegan. That's just part of the foundation of why I choose to go vegan.

It is fun actually.

I certainly won't deny that God is pretty clear on animal sacrifices. I mean, that would be absurd. That doesn't chance the fact that pre-sin, in the perfect earth, man was vegan.

Luke 15:21-23

Quote :
"Then his son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and you. I don't deserve to be called your son anymore.'
But the father said to his servants, 'Hurry! Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let's eat and celebrate!'

And yet, for hundreds of years, Christianity, in effect, promoted metaphysical cannibalism by virtue of transubstantiation of the Sacrament (and some Catholics still hold to this interpretation).

I mean if you chose to be vegan, so be it. I can kind of respect the desire to minimize your impact in the world and the lengths most people go to in order to conform to a vegan lifestyle. I mean, it ignores the fact that, in order for humans to merely exist, animals must die, but cool. Just don't try to justify it through Christianity.

On HD Earth or whatever channel that is that shows sunrises across the Earth one was a dairy farm in PA and the moo cows were in line waiting to be milked. They would voluntarily walk up to the door and wait for their nipples to be tweaked.

They seemed chill and happy. Maybe it was the calming music I DUNNO MANG
