yeah, LCD or plasma

DLP uses tiny little mirrors to represent one or more pixels on the screen. It's a "cheap" way to get a big screen in my opinion, but it works for some people...
not my favorite.

dlp screens aren't all that bad - the color reproduction is quite nice.

However DLP in projectors is $$$.

I prefer DLP to LCD. When I bought my tv I had the option of a 62" LCD or 52" DLP for the exact same price, I went with DLP. Better color. LCD is overrated, IMO... especially now that mitsubishi has a laser DLP.

^ that's I would have figured as well.

Speaking of...financial aid just came through and I want to get a new tv about a 32-40 inch lcd. Should I go with plasma instead and what are the better brands that you guys know of? got about 1000 $texas to work with here.

Thanks in advance.

If you are on financial aid, you should go with a smarter area to put your money, not a TV.

I didn't (and won't) save money during college. I decided, I'd rather spend it. Sure I could have a few extra thousand when I graduate, but I thought I could go ahead and get out my urge to buy stupid shit and spend without caution.

I figure now is the best time while I still have an excuse, no family to support, no house/car payments, and a pretty tight financial back-fall if needed.

I would save it. ^^'s Logic is stupid.

I'll buy a TV now when I have no money and get it out of my system because when I have a job and an outdated TV, I probably won't have the urge to buy one! Brilliant!

yeah, i can't say i really understand that logic either. your financial aid isn't free money. you probably want to seriously reconsider blowing it all willy-nilly now. the last thing you want when you graduate is a bunch of debt hanging over your head if you can help it.

i'd think as an RA you could save a ton of your financial aid since room and board are payed for.

it makes me mad to see people blow their financial aid on shit such as tvs when i couldn't get the money to help me pay for my books and necessities.

but i don't want to get off topic... how do you determine the right tv for your living space? i know a bigger tv isn't always better if you've got a small living room, but how does that work?

I didn't say get into debt. I didn't say I didn't have money. And when I graduate, buying a ncie tv won't be shit for me.

It's more of, save up until I have enough for what I want to buy, then buy it. Not buy it and then go into debt/not have enough for living expenses.

depends on how far away from the TV you'll be sitting when watching it.

I may be wrong cause I don't have the chart in front of me. But I think 50'-56' is good if you're about 15 feet away

ok, let me repeat. I DIDN'T SAY GET INTO DEBT. yes, getting into debt is stupid. I was stating that if you have the money, or save up for a little while and buy what you want to. I said nothing about going into debt, but it's nice if you have a financial back-fall in case shit happens and you need money. And that's not the same as saying spend all of your money. It would be stupid to do that. Have enough for what you want to buy, for food, etc, then a little extra

jesus christ people, learn to read

No, the main types of TVs over the past couple of years are:

Plasma
LCD Flat panel
LCD projection
LCOS/SXRD
DLP

The 62" LCD he's talking about is probably LCD projection which generally range from "kind of bad" to "really, really bad".

i wanted to like DLP's

but I ended up with a plasma because of DLP's horrible viewing angle range (vs 170+ degree viewability on plasmas)
