so i just bought a new 09 Matrix message_topic.aspx?topic=537751 but it doesn't come till next week so i got some time to change the terms. i'm wondering if i should get either of these extras what do y'all think?
Quote : | "1) i can get a maintenance program for +$5/mo which covers all recommended maintenance for the first 30k miles. over 60mo that's $300. worth it?
2) and i can get a car care system for +$10/mo (so $600 over the life of the loan) where they put exterior and fabric protection applications on. and it's good for 5 years so i can bring it back in 4.5 years and basically get the inside and outside cleaned or replaced for free. we have a 6 month old so i'm sure at some point in the next 5 years she's gonna ruin something. worth it?" |

DONT DO IT
also dont purchase any extended warranty until your manufacturers warranty is about to expire! 8/19/2008 11:16:32 PM |

don't do any of that.
for the fabric protection, get 3 cans of scotchguard at wal-mart for $7/each and spray the seats and exposed surfaces yourself. that's what they were going to do. save yourself some cash. remember it stinks, so air it out for a while after application.
if you want the interior to look new, get some custom made seat covers. they resist all stains and spills. wipe off everything.
the maint. program is just a profit center for them, b/c they will always find something else that they don't cover.
as with anything, GET IT IN WRITING. if they claim to replace your engine at 50k for $5 a month for 12 mos, you know what to do.

gf negotiated a free lexus extended warranty (manufacturer, not dealer) to be included in the purchase of her '06 rx330
i don't know how well you could negotiate on a new car, though 8/20/2008 3:37:37 PM |

what manufacturer offers these? ive never seen one, but i have heard plenty of salesmen claim that the extended warranty they are pushing is an acutal manufacturer warranty when it isnt.8/20/2008 4:52:44 PM |

she bought it from fred anderson toyota back in april...for $3.5k under NADA retail, tax/title/tag included
i was proud of her, i thought she did a pretty good job, considering she paid nearly $1k less than trade-in value, out the door, and with an extended warranty

i dont know what maintenance items toyota covers over your 60 months, such as oil services, brake pads/rotors, belts, etc...but if they dont cover any of that from day one then a maintenance program would be a good idea to go for, just make sur eyou understand all the terms and def get a list of what is and is not covered...

bmw does, orig warranty is 4yrs/50k(new vehicle, covers any and everything on the car), extended program you buy into is 6yr/100k(maintenance), and CPO warranty is a 100k deal, but thats a whole other story and not as good as new vehicle...8/20/2008 10:00:27 PM |

see didnt negotiate anything that was free, go ahead and get used to that fact. she either negotiated something that she paid for, or she was given something free- simple as that. you have to get up pretty early to get a dealer to leave money on the table, and getting them to do that on a USED car is just not going to happen.
Back on topic: I would like to see documentation that fred anderson toyota sold her a

Fred Anderson only sells one kind of extended warranty, and it definitely not a toyota (or lexus) manufacturer warranty. Ask me how I know.

is that under retail price for dealer? or for private sale? If it's for dealer, then it's not that good of a deal, since dealer's price is inflated anyway.8/23/2008 10:38:23 PM |
