On a semi-related note, I lived near Ricky Steamboat when I wrestled as a kid and he helped train me sometimes.
On a very related note,

I wouldn't put Golddust in that list though. He was pretty popular, and his gimmick lasted about 4 years in WWE. He also won the Intercontinental Championship and had that whole GDTV (Goldust Television) shit. The only reason he even left WWE was that he requested a release and it was granted.
He came back as Golddust a couple times from '02-'05 as well.

Ricky Steamboat, Dustin Rhodes, and Barry Darsow (the repo man, aka Demolition Smash) all had respectable careers. No way they should be put on the same level as Damian Demento or Bastion Booger.

*sigh* Poor Lanny Poffo was never as popular as his brother. As for Barry Darsow, I thought he had already "made it" as Smash? Why the fuck is Ricky Steamboat on this list? Mother fucker had some of the greatest matches of ALL TIME. His feuds with Flair and Wahoo were just incredible. Let's go with Lance Storm. He came up through Stu Hart's Dungeon at the exact time as Jericho, did the world-wide tours, and then what? He petered out his career in ECW, and just never made it in WWE, and I honestly can't say why. Jericho even said repeatedly that Lance was a better wrestler than him, and some of his favorite matches were teamed or against Lance. And poor poor Hellwig. Ultimate Warrior. Sure, maybe WWE embellished SOME shit with the Self-Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior, but MAN, was that guy cracked in the head. For more wrestling memories: http://www.wrestlecrap.com/

Brother Love was all over WWF programming for years...he just wasn't a wrestler.
Lance Storm was indeed boring as fuck.
Doink was an awesome character at first, and he was never intended to be a main eventer so I don't see how you can say he didn't make it.
The Anvil was tag champion a bunch of times...
I think this thread should be for guys who got every chance in the world to jump up the ranks from nobody to IC shots, etc., but didn't pull it off even with a push (Jeff Jarrett, for example), not the guy who jobbed on the first episode of Raw. 9/8/2008 10:08:53 AM |

Curtis, the guy who owns the Westover Barber Shop over by the fairgrounds, did some professional wrestling for a while. I don't know what circuit/organization he was on.
he was also a machine gunner with the USMC in Desert Storm, filmed a pilot episode or something for a show on Comedy Central, and I think he worked as a Congressional aide or somethingorother. He's done all sorts of shit. His latest project is that he's gotten into curling...there is apparently going to be a reality TV show where the winning curling team gets an automatic bid into the National Curling Championship or whatever, and therefore a chance at being in the next Olympics.
plus he's a good barber, and he went to NCSU (I THINK he lived on Brent Road back in the day when it was really a place to rage). 9/8/2008 10:09:14 AM |

I wouldn't consider Jim Neidhart on this list.
He held the tag-team title twice with Brett Hart and had a pretty popular stint for almost a decade in the WWF(E).
Same goes with I.R.S. He held the tag team title 5 times with Ted Dibiase.
This thread is blurring the lines quite a bit from where I think it was originally planned to go.
but here is my addition

Val Venis occasionally does a job here or there on Raw or ECW. He was in the battle royal at WM24 that got bumped.
And I completely forgot that Val Venis was tag champion with Lance Storm of all people for something like ten days in 2002

I think they may have been around for a while. I think maybe even got belts, but it wasn't for very long.
And dude, IRS was around for a long time and was with Ted Dibiase for a while in "Money Inc." and they got belts and were a big deal for a while.
