It was different back in 1998-99. I remember:
purple serpentine sectional couches
a lounge room with an old TV, tables, and snack machines. It got converted into a printing office or something.
taco bell express was half its current size; there used to be institutional-quality burgers and fries sold in part of that space
the restaurant area had tile floors and different furniture, not nearly as attractive as today

I'd say it's more pleasing to the eye now, but I kind of miss the old look, for nostalgia reasons.

Also, there was none of this LAN party shit in the Wolves' Den. There were a bunch of pool tables, and one big-ass rear projection TV.

I think when I came here for campus tours, it was still The Underground (which apparently had pretty good food, but the meal plan only let you eat there once a semester or something...not entirely sure) The fact that it had become the Wolves' Den was the new thing back in fall '98.

^ HAHAHAHA... I remember you working there all the time!

I used those iMacs once to post and forgot to logout. Nrallen made a thread from my account (trapezius) entitled "I love America" in the Soap Box with the post saying more of the same and stuff like "It is the best country in the world... I love it... I am a patriot..." etc.

Oh man, I remember those. They werent bad as far as campus food went, and if you lived in wood hall, that was like one of your main dining spots.

Do they still have Stone Willy's Legendary Pizza? I remember ordering a pizza from there and it was more like a grease soup than anything resembling pizza.

ahah The Underground FTW!

I remember in my public speaking class a dude got up there and gave an instructional speech on the process for making the croutons for the salad bar at The Underground.

too true.

those pool cues sucked balls, but overall it was pretty fun, a ping pong table or two, needed better lighting down there.... old school cabinet style video games, quarter machines, the star wars game, the pizza joint down there could never fully cook a big pizza...

On Saturday I had chicken fingers with honey mustard sauce (at Applebee's) for the first time in 6+ years.

The first memory they brought to my mind were of the the Wolve's Den, because that's where I had them last, end of 2002.

haha, no kidding, except 1998 for me. Man, what a fun time.

except on my current budget instead of the college budget, working for $8/hour to scrape up a few bucks to put gas in my Jeep, pay off the latest parking ticket from trying to park on Vanderbilt Avenue or wherever, and buy a bucketful of beer on mug night at the Old Bar.

[Edited on February 27, 2009 at 5:25 PM. Reason : i think i'm gonna need a master's degree in the foreseeable future, haha]

[Edited on February 27, 2009 at 5:26 PM. Reason : except the engineering part. that wasn't fun at all.]

^^^ The building was renovated. I visited there that summer for the S.I.T.E. (Student's Introduction To Engineering) program. I was confused as hell trying to get around there, lol. Daniels now has more modern rooms in parts of it, and much of the building has changed I think. It wasn't my home base so I can't provide much more info than that.

I'm pretty sure Lil Dino's is still there and most everybody in this thread so far has just been that they haven't been there in a while. I also thought the pool tables were still in the wolves' den? There's just a lot of other shit in the way now. The video games should probably never have been added in there. Brings a bunch of nerds into a public area where they STILL act like a bunch of nerds (were they hoping that it would make them more social to be absorbed in their video games while next to other people?). I think stone willy's legendary pizza is now something else and the pizzas are now ~1-2" diameter smaller than when I started at NCSU in the fall of 2004. The chicken fingers got ass raped a number of times and went from being rather decent and generous in 2004 to being cheap assed and dry in 2008. If you order fries at the wolves' den now they basically give you a small handful of them for a lot more money than they used to be.

Ice cream shop is still there, it's just this little spot attached to the emporium (c-store). Still $1/scoop if I remember correctly. I remember when taco bell was tiny, they converted it one year I was at state. It used to be such a pain in the dick to get food from there, but now it's somewhat tolerable (and it is actually some of the better food you're going to get on the cheap while eating on campus, unfortunately).

They had shitty burgers in the wolves' den for a while, but I'm not sure if they still do. You would be better off driving down to wendy's now anyway. You don't get nearly enough food for the money. They would also charge you for anything you wanted on it (and you put on your own condiments). I admit, I still kind of miss the place having not eaten there in over a year. Mostly because I had fewer responsibilities and liabilities back then...

I was between classes when the OJ verdict was read and I watched that here. There were about 10 people in there, but I was the only student. The only thing more surprising than the verdict was everyone around me that started cheering like they won the lottery.

I don't think I'll ever forget that.
