Obama is gonna loose. He looks like a deer in headlights whenever anything international happens and McCain looks like a Pro. Nobody votes for a VP.

Biden...a northeast liberal.. s
Say.. now that's reaching out to the independents across the nation.

Voted to give social security benefits and citizenship to illegal aliens.

De-railed his own presidential bid in '88 when it was uncovered that he plagiarized a speech by British Labour Party leader Neil Kinnock.

Dropped out of the 2008 presidential race on January 3, after coming 5th in the Iowa caucus, receiving only 1% of the votes.

I think Biden and Obama have differing views on Iraq...also supposedly Biden also had issues with Obama's lack of experience.

Biden is a solid foreign policy pragmatist. McCain thinks he is John Wayne in Green Berets. It's unbelievable that someone that doesn't know Sunni from Shi'a and sees strong parallels between Iraq and WWII asserts their "foreign policy credentials."

This pick locks up Pennsylvania and probably helps in Virginia as much as Kaine would.

i think John McCain went insane in the membrane back in that Hanoi rathole.

we can honor him with Senator-for-Life, but hopefully we have the sense to NOT put him in charge of our nation's nuclear arsenal.

richardson is a very intelligent, experienced man ... but he is not a very good public speaker. and he fumbles in debates.

hes kind of like Al Gore in the way Gore used to put everyone to sleep.

sucks, but the reality in politics is you have to engage your audience.

the thing i really really agree with

Quote :
" Honesty.(dude put it not me) Biden’s most notorious feature is his mouth. But in his youth, he had a stutter. As a freshman in high school he was exempted from public speaking because of his disability, and was ridiculed by teachers and peers. His nickname was Dash, because of his inability to finish a sentence.

He developed an odd smile as a way to relax his facial muscles (it still shows up while he’s speaking today) and he’s spent his adulthood making up for any comments that may have gone unmade during his youth.

Today, Biden’s conversational style is tiresome to some, but it has one outstanding feature. He is direct. No matter who you are, he tells you exactly what he thinks, before he tells it to you a second, third and fourth time.(emphasis added)"

I like Biden, he's a fucking straight shooter with barrels upon barrels of foreign policy experience. This is definitely an acknowledgment of Obama filling in the gaps in his resume with competent experience instead of going for another 'change candidate'. I think it's a humble pie move for him although I'm sure by some he will be criticized for it.

Biden will help with older voters, catholic voters, and you're 'everday type'. If you've ever heard him he's as frank as they come - think Ed Rendell material, but not THAT crazy.

Here's an article that points out his strenghts and weaknesses...he certainly has both but I think it really contrasts and couples with Obama's constituted almost to a fault personality.

From Marc Armbinder:

Quote :
"I gather that what impressed Obama about Biden is that Biden gets things done. He's a man of action. He's not a bullshitter. I also get the sense that Biden, 65, is pretty well aware that, at age 73 in eight years, he's not going to be a viable presidential choice, and thus convinced Obama that because the vice presidency would be his terminal position, the famous Biden ego will take a subordinate role.

Quote :
"Running against Obama for the presidency, Biden said nominating
someone without national security credentials would be a "tragic mistake" and said that the presidency "is not something that lends itself to on-the-job-training."

McCain aides are also likely to go after Biden by arguing that he does not represent the fundamental change that Obama has been promising since beginning his presidential run.

Biden, a 36-year veteran of the U.S. Senate, is a creature of Capitol Hill, someone who is steeped in the nuances of the legislature and is part of an institution that regularly gets terrible approval
ratings by Americans.

In August, Biden was harshly critical of Obama's lack of experience, saying, "Having talking points on foreign policy doesn't get you there."

The thing that I like about this pick, and I'm being honest here, is that I like Biden better than Obama in terms of credentials, record, and personality in the office. I did before this whole thing started. Although keep in mind not to short Obama because I think his initiative, intelligence and perception will be invaluable in the big chair.

So the pick has me personally delighted...I think they bring a great team to the administration. If I were McCain I'd pick Pawlenty

I love his take on Giuliani who I really loathe

Wonder if the text message being sent at 3 am was a dig at his rival in the primaries. Obama is arrogant and despite the MSM constantly sucking him off he will be in for a dog fight in the general election. You think getting another northern liberal is going to help Obama overtake the South and the heartland. It will come down to Ohio and Florida again. Biden will assure PA even if McCain taps Ridge.

Yeah that was coherent. Like the media doesn't give McCain 1001 free passes. And why the fuck would Obama choose someone to win the south and heartland? This election is essentially in OH, MI, VA, CO, and maybe even NV.

^ OMG!! Biden Gets Angry???? That must mean he will take us to war with Syria!!!! Oh, I guess that reasoning only holds if you're talking about a Republican. If you're Howard Dean or Joe Biden, getting angry just makes you that much cooler.

Now, of course, I actually like Dean and Biden (though I disagree with them strongly, especially on domestic policies). But I have never said that getting emotional makes you unstable and would make you more likely to launch ill-considered wars. Let's at least aim for consistency here, okay?

This.... was a god awful pick. What were they thinking? Yeah it makes part of their base happier I guess, but I can see this pick being dissappointing to a lot of the new support Obama has been relying upon. But picking a old school democrat from the NE has never worked for the Democrats. Let's see, when was the last time a northern Democrat won the Presidency... fucking JFK. And JFK barely won, something people seem to forget, hell Daly probably stole the election for him.

Ugh, if Obama was truly about "Change" he would have picked some one different. This "Hope" and "Change" message is starting to fall on it's face, and he isn't doing anything to help it.

^ JFK also picked LBJ to help him in the south.

I agree this is not a smart move politically. No Democratic President in history has ever won by ignoring the South. We got too many people living down here. Now, I guess he's hoping the black vote will be enough to make him competitive, but I doubt it.

^, ^^ im afraid i tend to agree with those statements. that's why i wanted Kainen.

however a couple points: the NE "old school" dem isnt running for Pres.. and Biden can definitely help Obama by taking the lead on attack where he has personlly been hesitant to fully engage.

2004 was lost by the Dems, and they "had" the south, before there was ever any dirt on edwards. Kerry lost in 2004 because he wasnt aggressive enough in counterattacking the Reps. Biden will make sure that doesnt happen again

Cocks'', you point is poor and worthless. he didn't need to pick someone who was going to gain the south for him because thats a risky ploy and rarely, if ever, comes to fruition. hes not going to gain the south just by picking someone from this area and i believe that is something that he realizes. a pick that would speak to the clinton supporters but not take away from his base that has no affinity for clinton is what he needed to do. this pick works for him.

^also what you have to say along the lines of biden making sure that doesn't happen. that just adds to the laundry list of why this is a decent pick.

The funny thing is that I woke up this morning not even remembering that I had received such a message but was reminded by the tv that was on at lunch. It makes me wonder what skeletons Kaine had to where he wasn't picked. He was my favorite choice.

Anyways, how long do the grownups think it will be before McCain puts out an ad with Biden saying Obama isn't ready to lead?

This will make for some very good commercials.

i think the obama camp anticipated this message and that is why when obama said he had found his running mate that it was someone who was willing to disagree with him or could challenge him openly. i think that much is clear. its job applications 101, take a negative and turn it into a positive.

^^ We'll see.

It didn't prevent Reagan winning in 1980 when he selected GHW Bush, but Reagan was different. He was a known commodity, having been engaged in politics for decades and running for President twice before 1980. It's also a much harsher criticism to say you disagree on policy (as Bush did with Reagan) and to simply say someone is too inexperienced to lead and to effectively. openly endorse his opponent (which actually falls directly into the McCain narrative).

But who knows how this will play out.

2marko, lol aye.

I think I can get on board with this guy. Mostly I like the idea of having someone with enough foreign policy experience combined with Obama's positive international standing to redefine our relationship with the rest of the world for the better. There are a few other people who would have had more of a wow factor, which in someways what I was hopping for, but this guy may be just wanted the Obama campaign needs.

He was rated a 78% by the HRC & 60% by the ACLU which are both organizations with philosophies I roughly agree with. I think after a Bush presidency and the patriot act we especially need someone who isn't going to let our civil liberties erode any further. (just for contrast McCain had 33% by the HRC & 0% by the ACLU)

Definitely not Chet Edwards, and not so much on Kaine or Bayh either. Sebelius, Richardson, Clinton, Gore, and a few others are ones I could have got on board with too most likely.

Someone I worked closely with on the Jim Neal for Senate campaign whose opinion I value, Sam Spencer, had interned with Biden on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee & as well as worked on his presidential campaign and always sung his praises as a down to earth, intelligent, and good guy.

(he goes into some detail here:
