Biden is a solid foreign policy pragmatist. McCain thinks he is John Wayne in Green Berets. It's unbelievable that someone that doesn't know Sunni from Shi'a and sees strong parallels between Iraq and WWII asserts their "foreign policy credentials."

This pick locks up Pennsylvania and probably helps in Virginia as much as Kaine would.

I like Biden, he's a fucking straight shooter with barrels upon barrels of foreign policy experience. This is definitely an acknowledgment of Obama filling in the gaps in his resume with competent experience instead of going for another 'change candidate'. I think it's a humble pie move for him although I'm sure by some he will be criticized for it.

Biden will help with older voters, catholic voters, and you're 'everday type'. If you've ever heard him he's as frank as they come - think Ed Rendell material, but not THAT crazy.

Here's an article that points out his strenghts and weaknesses...he certainly has both but I think it really contrasts and couples with Obama's constituted almost to a fault personality.

The thing that I like about this pick, and I'm being honest here, is that I like Biden better than Obama in terms of credentials, record, and personality in the office. I did before this whole thing started. Although keep in mind not to short Obama because I think his initiative, intelligence and perception will be invaluable in the big chair.

This.... was a god awful pick. What were they thinking? Yeah it makes part of their base happier I guess, but I can see this pick being dissappointing to a lot of the new support Obama has been relying upon. But picking a old school democrat from the NE has never worked for the Democrats. Let's see, when was the last time a northern Democrat won the Presidency... fucking JFK. And JFK barely won, something people seem to forget, hell Daly probably stole the election for him.

2004 was lost by the Dems, and they "had" the south, before there was ever any dirt on edwards. Kerry lost in 2004 because he wasnt aggressive enough in counterattacking the Reps. Biden will make sure that doesnt happen again

Cocks'', you point is poor and worthless. he didn't need to pick someone who was going to gain the south for him because thats a risky ploy and rarely, if ever, comes to fruition. hes not going to gain the south just by picking someone from this area and i believe that is something that he realizes. a pick that would speak to the clinton supporters but not take away from his base that has no affinity for clinton is what he needed to do. this pick works for him.

^also what you have to say along the lines of biden making sure that doesn't happen. that just adds to the laundry list of why this is a decent pick.

It didn't prevent Reagan winning in 1980 when he selected GHW Bush, but Reagan was different. He was a known commodity, having been engaged in politics for decades and running for President twice before 1980. It's also a much harsher criticism to say you disagree on policy (as Bush did with Reagan) and to simply say someone is too inexperienced to lead and to effectively. openly endorse his opponent (which actually falls directly into the McCain narrative).

But who knows how this will play out.

I think I can get on board with this guy. Mostly I like the idea of having someone with enough foreign policy experience combined with Obama's positive international standing to redefine our relationship with the rest of the world for the better. There are a few other people who would have had more of a wow factor, which in someways what I was hopping for, but this guy may be just wanted the Obama campaign needs.

He was rated a 78% by the HRC & 60% by the ACLU which are both organizations with philosophies I roughly agree with. I think after a Bush presidency and the patriot act we especially need someone who isn't going to let our civil liberties erode any further. (just for contrast McCain had 33% by the HRC & 0% by the ACLU)

Definitely not Chet Edwards, and not so much on Kaine or Bayh either. Sebelius, Richardson, Clinton, Gore, and a few others are ones I could have got on board with too most likely.

Someone I worked closely with on the Jim Neal for Senate campaign whose opinion I value, Sam Spencer, had interned with Biden on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee & as well as worked on his presidential campaign and always sung his praises as a down to earth, intelligent, and good guy.
