My new dookiemax came in last night.

'08 crew cab short bed, Z71 SLT, the only thing it doesn't have that the denali does is a dvd/nav

It even has the pto idle crap, integrated brake controller, adjustable load braking and manual shifting, remote start, the whole 37 yards

it had 6 miles on it when i picked it up, i can't wait to get to around 500 to really give it hell, it will already burn em down through 1st and second, spins again when it hits3rd, and chirps them going into 4th, with the rear end locked

** RIP big red, I'm sure the tennessee kid I sold you to already has to buried up to the bumpers on a powerline trail

Next step over the next few months is banks intake and exhaust, economy tuner, spray in bed liner, step bars, front and rear bumpers and winch, and remounting my tool box on there

my main goal on this build is superfluous fuel mileage, i've been talkin with the banks people and they have recommended a setup that should produce 28mpg+ on the highway, as soon as they get the tuner on the market

Now just get rid of those tiny stock tires GM always puts on them.

I don't know about 28mpg though.

what is with the new exhaust tips on those things??

also, I heard one with straight pipe at the auction and it honestly sounds like a jet engine

[Edited on August 24, 2008 at 2:07 PM. Reason : its a cooler tip, the exhaust is over 1000 degrees during cleaning, it mixes in cooler air]

it does kinda look like a trombone, i guess it uses the venturi to suck in air

mine is quiet as a mouse with the cat, particulate filter, and 55 gallon drum muffler, most of that will be gone with the banks system

yeah, me either. it's a catch .22 putting larger tires on since the larger rotating mass will drop the highway rpm's but in turn the added weight really slows it down. i highly doubt you'll see 28. i'm averaging 21 in the city. i rarely drive on the highway so it's hard to give a definitive on what i'm seeing mileage wise there. but i do know if i stay around 60-65 the mileage is A LOT better than if i run 70. anything over 70 you can forget about good gas mileage. if you are serious about gas mileage then i do recommend getting a scanguage ( http://www.scangauge.com/ ). you can't really go by the DIC. it's not that accurate. hand-calculate your mileage every fill-up and you'll see what i mean.
great choice of truck, though! the LMM is a strong ass engine. it's easily a 1000hp engine. the weak link is obviously the transmission. even though it is the best in the OEM market, you are on borrowed time if you run more than 500hp. go ahead and start reading up on the Transgo Jr. shift kit. i plan on doing that next. my mods are limited like you say yours are but i know how easily it is to make these trucks super fucking fast. i have a feeling with your mechanical ability you aren't going to stop at just an intake, exhaust, and programmer.

i wouldn't laugh too hard. it is definitely feasible. just not with the mods he plans on doing to it. he would have to look at either propane or water/methanol injection in order to accomplish it. i, personally, would look at a water/methanol kit since the truck would able to cruise on a highway mostly off of the w/m and leave the diesel fuel in the tank. i think you could see a higher return on the money with w/m also since a gallon of windshield washer fluid is ~$1.50/gal. vs. diesel ~$4.25/gal. there is a company now (i believe it's bully dog) who is averaging 32mpg with their Dmax.

^still paying for the water+meth mix, still paying $x/gal for the propane. as long as they are cheaper per unit than diesel, im for it.

gear vendors, programmer, I/E, drop some weight, skinny tires are about the best bets for improving fuel economy

like i said, banks has a setup that can easily hit 28, but its not on the market yet, and they couldn't go into the entire details since the patent is still pending, but it was something along those lines ^^

its the stinger kit is part of the package, and it will be upgradable to the new system, so i'll start with the cheap/simple stuff

'tis true. but like i said, $1.50/gal. is a lot cheaper than $4+/gal. for diesel. you would definitely get a return on your money a lot sooner running water/methanol.

^^well, if there was a company to do it, it would be Banks. i think Banks definitely has some of the cleanest written tunes on the market and that says a lot. i can't stand these assholes who search for a tune that "produces the most smoke". do they not understand that a lot of smoke means A: wasting fuel and B: shitty tune?

Nice, looking truck man... Love mine too, now its time to start spending some more on it. I would start with a line-x bedliner, i know underPSI would agreee. Talk to chuck at Linex of the triangle and tell him benny from WV sent ya, he just fixed up some boards for me today. Then start with the banks...

there's a line-x dealer somewhere in TN that sprays Line-X Xtra. that's what i would've got if a local place did it but i had to settle on Line-X w/ UltraShield. i'd definitely check out the Xtra.

Look at the frontal area of that car.

Combine that with the turbulence generated underneath the car. I bet the exhaust and rear bumper are perfectly designed parachutes.

I still stand by my statement. It isnt going to happen without EXTENSIVE effort. The aerodynamics are the challenge.

you forget the fact that it is a diesel, the inherent efficiency of the engine will more than make up for the size of the vehicle, hell, stock it already gets twice the mileage of a gas one

[Edited on August 25, 2008 at 7:32 PM. Reason : ^^ the fact that i would have to drive 3 hours to pay twice as much kinda turns me off to that idea]

Nice ride, you'll love the duramax. 28 isn't way out of the realm, but I too am a little skeptical, I'm getting 23.5 hand calculated on the highway. Just made a round trip from here to Bristol, TN and back on one tank of fuel. right about 500 miles. That's with a tuner, and downpipe back exhaust, oh yeah and running the speed limit, no more than 70, that's when it starts to really drop the mileage due to RPM and overcoming resistance.

I'll 3rd the Line-X, and enjoy... I love my duramax and everything about it. Intake is next as is looking towards going bio! oh yeah after i get rid of these little wagon wheels that are on it and upgrade to some new wheels/tires.

there are some issues i gotta overcome on mine, we don't have emissions here, but if i eliminate the filter, he computer will still try to "clean" it, and could melt some shit down without it, i would need an under the table custom tune from an expert, i doubt banks would do any shady shit like that

PDI makes a delete kit and custom tune for the DPF, there's a disclaimer that goes along with it, since you're going to be using it for offroad purposes from now on

^ what is your username, i saw someone talkin about charlotte to fayettnam towing

anyway, after a couple hours or research, the first round is going to be

mbrp 4" turbo back exhaust for the 01-07's, bolts right up with a few mods

quadzilla stealth II tuner with the dpf delete tuning to take care of the codes and regen cycle

afe stageII intake system

that should run around $1600 altogether and put me in the 24-26 mpg range with the standard economy/towing 90 hp tune, i'm not gonna drop much into the tranny or rear end, but if i was, i could bump it to a 330hp gain at the push of a button
