How often do you do EVERYTHING there is to do in a video game? I'm not counting MMORPGs because that's virtually impossible unless you're Raige (see here).

These days I don't do it often because of work and the like, but even in the past I rarely saw everything there is to see in games, especially RPGs. I saw all the endings in Chrono Trigger and even levelled up some of the characters to 99. I never got the Paladin Shield in FF6 (255 battles? No friggin way) and never beat any of the weapons in FF 7 or 8 except the Omega Weapon in 8 (I think). At some point sidequests and easter eggs become work and aren't worth the trouble, and I don't feel like grinding for a small accomplishment.

Achievement points make me slightly more motivated to play 360 games more. In fact, even though PS3 games are starting to look better, I'll be buying the 360 versions of any multiplatform games

In non-rpgs I tend to finish more because it doesn't take as much time. For instance, I unlocked most everything in Wario Ware: Smooth Moves and got all 121 242 stars in Super Mario Galaxy

So where do you other gamers stand on this? Do Achievements affect how much of a game you complete? Do you do all the tedious stuff in Final Fantasy games and other RPGs?

I'm not much of a "completionist" at all. I go through the campaign as fast as I can and then multiplayer it up if I can. I don't do the side shit/complete other tasks until like 4 months and have nothing else to play

Depends on the game and type of completion.

Finding Easter Eggs in some games is pretty fun, like Skies of Arcadia. Ninja Gaiden 2 with the 'only use X weapon' and Mass Effect with the 'use only these characters/weapons' aren't that fun.

i did everything you could do in ff7...including growing each materia for each of the characters, all of which were lvl 99. do you know how long it took to grow that many knights of the round?? fuck...but it was fun.

i did everything you could do in ff8...but it was extremely easy...and thats why i hate that game.

i tried beating all the monster farm things in ff10, but it go really gay really fast...but i could be the final boss in like one turn with wakka.

That's why I hardly ever get around to completing any game. Last one I did everything in was Mario Galaxy, and I was severely disappointed by the "reward" for doing it all. At least it was a blast to play, even twice through.

^^How sad is it that to this day I still haven't even beaten FFX?

I completed Zelda OoT, Majora's Mask, and Link to the Past with everything.

I consider myself a completionist, but I really don't have the time these days to even get to the end of most games.

pretty much every game I ever own I only bought 4 total games for my xbox... i play the game till there is nothing left of it or me. but not any game will do

lucky for me I just don't find wow or spore that interesting

im still bumping around FF crisis core on my psp on level 99 seeing if i can catch any of the scene triggers unawares.

bet I could save a bit of cash if I just stuck with games.

This is for story driven games. I think this started with FFX. Got to the very end and then just mehed all over it.

I complete all of the racing games and RTS 100% (All the NFS and C&C games for example) I guess that's not really saying much though. Generally I try to complete as much as I can just so I can say that I've done it, but not so much anymore. Paper Mario got to be much with the cards. and I've about given up on Mario Kart (unlocking EVERYTHING).

I hate finding hidden packages in GTA but do it anyway - i beat most action games on their hardest difficulty level - and do most sidequests in RPGs unless they are really stupid and annoying like the hunts in FFXII

I used to go all out finding everything in games. I played Resident Evil 2 so many times that I could beat the entire game in under 2 hours with no saves and no health spray. (Fuck Tofu Survivor, though.) Nowadays, though, I really don't care about wasting my time doing things in a game just so I could say I did. I really only play through a game once and then I'm done with it. On the other hand, if a game has good multiplayer, then I will play it ad infinitum. Battlefield Bad Company is definitely one of those types of games for me. I haven't spent a single minute in the campaign even though I know it's supposed to be pretty good.

I love doing it, I hate a game that you can only play through once. There are some things that can be tedious and I give up on but for the most part when I play a game I play it to beat everything possible.

I haven't gotten all the "star" ranks in the 100cc, 150cc, and 150cc mirror. But all the ranks are either **, *, or and A. I've spent hours trying to just get the *'s in them but it's so hard. All it takes is one bad situation (blue shell followed by a red shell and a comp bumping you out the way).

I believe that unlocks like a couple more bikes and carts as well as 1 or 2 characters. I haven't touched the game in about a month, so I don't remember anymore

my greatest video game overkill accomplishment was getting a gold chocobo in ff7, I did beat one weapon too, generally I only do about 75-80% of a game, I think I had something like 105 stars on mario 64

oh yea I did beat everything on mario kart 64, currently I just started a new perfect dark file and want to act like I'll beat every single thing but I don't see that happening

I don't see how everybody thinks the stars in mario 64 were so hard to get. It is a mario game after all, I had no problem getting all the stars/shines in 64/sunshine/galaxy.

Donkey Kong 64 on the other hand, some of those bananas were ridiculous.

i used to be and still somewhat am a completionist. I'm with ShinAntonio in that I stop now when it begins to feel like work, but that wasn't the case a few years ago. I got everything in every single Zelda game (except phantom hourglass), everything in all the mario and metroid games, and nearly everything from Final Fantasy 7. The most absurd it got was when I tried to get every Rage for Gau in Final Fantasy 6 (then i found out I was missing an enemy and it was impossible to encounter it). Nowadays I don't really give a shit, and yeah, Achievements are cool and all, but I hate the "use X weapon" or "get X number of kills using this weapon" achievements. Halo 3 was a good example of having decent achievements without being lazy and tedious

Depends on the game.

On things I enjoy, like Assassin's Creed, GTA, and the like, I try to do everything possible but I don't worry too much about the meaningless collectables like flags on top of random buildings. I try to get as many as I can without going amazingly out of my way to find them all.

Other games I just play through the campaign, maybe some multiplayer, or maybe just multiplayer. This is more common of games which are not as fun alone, like the Halos and fighting games like Soul Calibur 4. On games where doing multiplayer unlocks stuff (Team Fortress 2, Call of Duty 4), I try to unlock as much as I possibly can within the boundaries of still having fun (for example, I'm not going to try to get red tiger camo on a weapon I hate/never use in CoD4)...

Other games in which it is enjoyable to complete unlockables because they basically come as you play more (Rainbow Six: Vegas 2, for example), I try to go as far as I possibly can.

It really depends on the game and on how bored I am at the time. If it's not all that hard/tedious to get 100% completion in a game then I'll probably do it.

I tend to be more of a completionist in non-rpg games because rpgs usually require a good deal of grinding to do everything while more action oriented games are a little more entertaining to push that far. I guess it's because I play rpgs for the story and other games for the game play experience.
