Saw this on PP, thought it was an interesting topic of conversation.

In my opinion, this is just another step in the pussification of the USA. When I was a kid and a pitcher threw really fast/well and you were scared, you struck out. You either quit and felt sorry for yourself or you worked hard, improved, overcame your fear, accomplished something, and felt good about yourself. This shit pisses me right off, maybe as much as the "everybody gets trophies" and "we don't keep score" youth sports leagues.

"The right-hander has a fastball that tops out at about 40 mph. He throws so hard that the Youth Baseball League of New Haven told his coach that the boy could not pitch any more.

"I feel sad," he said. "I feel like it's all my fault nobody could play."

"Facing that kind of speed" is frightening for beginning players, Noble said."

maybe I'm mistaken but wouldn't a liberal want everyone to play? where as the conservative would be worried about their precious little boy.

a liberal would want everybody to have the same skill level...this kid is too good so they want to make him pay higher taxes because they're jealous that he's more skilled than their kids

but anyways

Apparently the mother doesn't want to bump him up, so some of the blame lies with her.

bump him up

you're just holding him back by making him play with n00bs

it's like sticking a piano prodigy in the middle school band

I like how people try to somehow turn this into some political thing.

That's crazy, they should either just let him play or bump him to a higher league.

Oh snap, maybe there are some internal politics at play here after all!!

Yeah really. Major leaguers never face a guy that is tough and throws really hard. He can't pitch. Teams that play the Giants should protest and make Tim Lincecum play shortstop.

This is absolutely absurd. I could see if he was pitching 75 mph to 9 year old kids. I mean then there is serious injury risk at stake.

FORTY MPH? I'm not saying I would have been smoking line drives (i was a below average hitter at best in little league) but jesus christ what is so scary about that?

I'm pretty damn sure there was a pitcher on every team in my league that could throw 40.

At batting cages I wasn't even aware you could set them up lower than ~40 mph.

What a freaking joke.

35mph is the slowest speed at Grand Slam USA at the K-Mart on Western. I'm just sayin.

Most cages I go to the lowest speed for a baseball is ~35

^ there you go.

When I was nine I probably would have gone 0-3 with 2 strikeouts against this kid. Instead of going 1-3 with a bunt single like I normally did.

What a bunch of pansy ass parents and coaches not letting their kids compete against the best.

I would have been mad as hell if my team had to forfeit a game because we were scared of losing.

When Ken Griffey Jr was little he was a pitcher because he was the best player on the team, and opposing parents didn't want to let him play because he was so much better than them.
