Hello,
I have been trying to fix this for a couple days now and I am running out of ideas so I wanted to see if anyone could help me out.

I have a Lenovo x61 with Vista Basic. It says the wireless is connected and has internet access. I can ping websites and I get a response. However, whenever I try to load a webpage in either Firefox or IE7 it never loads. In Firefox the typical reponse is of the nature "the network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Plear try again."

I have tried to reset my winsock according to this page here:

I have also reinstalled teh ICP/IP stack using this page:

I have also added my router's IP adddress (192.168.0.1) as the default gateway under my IPv4 advanced settings. The router is a D-Link DIR-615. I have not been able to test it's wireless with another computer; however, the wired connections work on both my desktop and the affected laptop. Also, my laptop connects fine to other wireless networks.

I have also tried to connect with Norton (the only anti-virus installed) disabled. I have tried with IE7's anti-phishing disabled. I also made sure that the power settings for my wireless connection were on high performance.

does it have a red x on the icon on the start bar? if so you might want to try the thing that worked for me in a thread I made near the beginning of august on the issue.

Found your problem. And, I'm not trying to be a dick, but basic edition is garbage. I've also heard that it has all types of networking issues. I'd recommend upgrading to a better package of Vista, not that this will necessarily solve your problem though.

You configured everything via an Access Connections profile, correct? That is, you didn't use the windows configuration manager?

Haven't had time to try anything new yet but just to answer a couple of posts...

no red x on the icon... vista says it has internet connectivity (little globe on the icon)

Vista Basic came on the computer and I cannot change that (school computer with configuration that cannot be changed due to online testing usage... Im not at NCSU anymore) Also, it says Vista Enterprise in some locations and Vista Basic in others... not really sure if there is a difference. On the properties tab for my computer it says Enterprise

^ I'm not really sure what you are asking. I setup the router using the router setup page. The connection on the laptop I setup just using the normal wireless configuration tool under the control panel or gotten to via the icon in the taskbar.

Any ideas would be appreciated. So far all I have to try is checking the channels on the laptop and router and trying a third party firmware for the router.
