Also since we're talking NC & one of my hometown's few claims to fame:

Mt. Airy is aka Mayberry, home town of Andy Griffith, & is the basis for the Andy Griffith show. And half our bell tower is built out of Mt. Airy granite, which is the world's largest open faced granite quarry.


I went on elementary school field trips here.

^ What did you guys do on the field trips? Just look at the granite or did they let you play with stuff?

makes you wonder if the south teaches quality spelling edumaction?

^yeah we looked around, walked across a lot of it, talked about how famous it makes our small town, and we all got to take a few pieces home of different types, shapes, and colors that we found ourselves. not the worst field trip i ever went on in maybery.

I had a great uncle with a llama farm... that was a fun place to go as a kid too, as was the Bright Leaf drive in theater which was close to a sonic like drive in fast food place
