I used to really enjoy watching these shows...but lately it's gotten to be too consistently pro-democrat. Come on guys.

Daily Show must have lost some of their better writers because the funniest thing I've seen on the show in the past few months has been Brian Williams showing up for interviews... And yeah, they've been going very pro-democrat lately... every once in a while they take a half-hearted shot at Obama's hope-isms, but that's about it. Though they were pretty steadfastly anti-Hilary, which I can't say I have a problem with.

Colbert Report was founded on him pretending to be a neo-con, and it's consistently been funny based on that. No need to change there.

Yeah, Colbert seems much more 'balanced' in that respect.

And I have noticed how the Daily Show has had a definite lean lately. Not sure what exactly to attribute it too. One argument a long time ago was "well, Republicans are on top right now and therefore there is a lot more to make fun of."

I think it has more to do with the republican party being fucked 10 ways till sunday more so than any particular political leaning.

Both shows are great at making fun of the republican party because they give them so much material to work with

they do make fun of both parties whenever possible.

however, it's never exactly been a secret that Jon Stewart, the correspondents, and likely the writers, are all extremely liberal. Therefore, I don't know why they should try to be "fair and balanced". They're a comedy fake-news show - not an impartial, balanced observer, nor have they ever claimed to be.

The recent swing even further to the left, I see as Jon Stewart taking control and simply saying "i think what's going on in the country now is fucked up, and i'm going to do my part to expose it and sway people's position". And that's his right - it's his show.

Not to say that Stewart and Colbert don't lean left to begin with, but come on, the Republicans have been providing them with a real wealth of material these past few days.

the problem with the Daily Show is Stewart goes back and forth between trying to be funny and trying to be serious...pick one of the two...Colbert plays his character perfectly and never strays from it...Stewart is joking around one minute and then trying to say some serious political shit the next...doesnt work

its like he wants people to take him seriously, but then when somebody calls him out on something, he just says "hey this is a comedy show"

the Daily Show seems pro-Democrat?

No...

Really?

you're joking?

I mean, that show, under John Stewart, has never seen a Democratic President. If that happens...then where's the funnay supposed to come from?

Agree with you on that; I'm sure he gets his kicks when a significant portion of the population views him as a primary source for news...

Colbert is infinitely better.

He's of course making fun of neo-cons, but he often addresses valid criticisms of democratic policies and issues, he just does it in an over the top conservative manner.

Really? When, exactly? Most of the time, it seems like he's lobbing softballs but putting on the over-the-top fake conservative schtick. Which, while funny sometimes, is really grating when he's got a left-wing moonbat like Naomi Klein on the show that he just lets get away with murder.

That being said, when he steps away from pitching softballs for Team Blue, some of his original material is pretty excellent. For instance, the Point/Counterpoint on ANWR drilling and three-card monte? Pure awesomesauce.

That being said, the prospect of John Stewart fellating every "serious" Democrat who walks on the show and alternatively, John McCain (before, that is, he became the credible threat to Democratic presidential ambitions) is just too much to bear. Hell, even when he's being confrontational with McCain he can't just stop acting like the man is a demigod.

Free comedy tip - it's funnier when it doesn't look like one-sided propaganda.

I agree that Colbert is grating. I'm not a big fan.

I love Stewart and the Show. Last night's episode deserves an award. Best one I've seen in a while.

I'll admit their bias, but they're not a "real" news show anyways, so what the fuck does it matter?

This is from last night, really entertaining side by side of the Republicans view of the issues surrounding Sarah Palin before and after she was announced as McCain's running mate...

I watched the Laura D'Andrea Tyson interview and he let her get away with murder...most times he plays the overzealous conservative and interupts, but he just let her babble away. Shit was weak.

none of which has to do with failed domestic policies, the rising debt, the stagnant economy and the monetary drain which is the war in Iraq and our oil glut.

I think the problem is you're assuming that when someone says that this country has problems, that it means they personally have problems.

I can say that there are things this country could probably do better, that as a whole this country isn't perfect. Does it make my life hell? No, I'm pretty satisfied with my life, but that doesn't mean things couldn't be better.

its just people being melodramatic with their words, yourself included.

That's the problem. You only think about you. We are selecting the President of the United States, not the President of TreeTwista's perfectly functionaly and in no way fucked up life.

A country that is incapable of helping its worst off is a country that is incapable of helping itself.

I also know our poor people have it a lot better off than poor people in many other countries

I mean if you want to speak out about the injustices and flaws of our country on behalf of the poor or homeless or people who don't have as loud of a voice, thats fine, but realize that other people see it as a privileged person bitching about how other people have it bad...doesn't seem too sincere...makes it seem like the people complaining are trivializing people who have it REALLY bad...hence my comments about not having a DVD...first all I download my movies...maybe I should've said "man this fucking sucks, I'm only getting 50kb/s, at this rate its gonna take hours to get this 700MB file...fuck me!"...thats what America comes across as nowadays...spoiled

note: i don't think everyone of you is like that by any means, but thats definitely a vibe i get from much of the COUNTRY as a whole nowadays

Tree, you're fooling yourself if you don't think the erosion of civil rights and personal liberties, the surge in theocratic-type thinking, and the increasing outwardly aggression of this country won't effect you at some point in the future, much less future generations

Problem? I don't see it as a problem. Instead, I view it as the solution to addressing very large problems that most Americans overlook or simply forget. The point of satire is to attack the foolishness inherent in humanity by simply making fun of it. Jon works through a "fiction" (his fake news show) that is clearly transparent to how he honestly feels. He mocks himself and his show to alleviate criticism, but that tactic is an inherent aspect of utilizing satire to sway opinions. One of the main reasons his show has been such an influential program for so many years is that no one of any political affiliation is above or below his criticism, including himself.
