im trying to think, ive generally been pretty happy. most bands ive seen live and been pretty unimpressed with were bands I wasnt huge into anyways. I know there have definitely been some, but I cant remember off the top of my head for some reason.

I could almost start another thread entitled "Bands you LOVE live, who disappoint you on disc" without being a parody thread because this has happened probably MORE for me than the question you are asking oddly enough.

oh heres one, late in codeseven's career their singer was REALLY into drugs and just sounded AWFUL live but I loved every one of their albums.

this is true... just noting the significant difference in their 'studio' voice and their actual god given one

counting crows in concert was kind of disappointing, I dunno they took a lot of liberties and changed up their songs quite a bit, standing out from the cd is one thing, but if you can't even sing along to a song b/c they change up the timing and phrasing so much, it just gets annoying fast

and like 5 min ad lib (vocals) sections in their best songs were a little off too

^agree 100%. I was highly disappointed when i heard them recently. I really wanted to hear "Round Here" live, but they completely butchered it.

I say Live, but I'm chalking that up to seeing them in 2008 instead of in the 90s

i got really drunk when i saw The Shins, so I enjoyed em

I was disappointed with Jack Johnson as well...I had hoped he'd jam a bit more, but otherwise his show wasn't terrible.

I can't really think of any other shows where I've left disappointed... :-/

I agree with Counting Crows. I must have had seats that were where all of the horns were pointing because the treble was through the roof and everything was screachy as hell. The band didn't seem into the show, either.

And I've honestly never been disappointed live. Its probably because I rarely see live music because I'm extremely picky about seeing live shows. Been ridiculously impressed with The Roots, Common, Nas, Talib Kweli, Method Man and Redman, Spoon, and RATM.

Not quite as impressed, but still very satisfied with Outkast and Wu-Tang (like 6/7 years ago).

Honestly...most impressed (only because I went in with extremely low expectations because I was DRAGGED there) with Nelly and St. Lunatics. Thought they were going to be horrible but they actually put on a pretty bad ass performance at the HOB in Myrtle Beach.

I've heard this on several occasions. I like their albums and haven't had the chance to see a live show but I've probably heard this more about the Chili Peppers than any other band....At the same time a friend of mine / fellow musician said he saw them about a year ago and it was a great show. I think they established a reputation for sloppy live shows and that's a hard wrap to beat until you consistently prove yourself otherwise

i've never been disappointed live except by The Absence. Drummer could NOT keep up live with the blastbeats. and while we're on the subject pelican's drummer was pretty terrible live, but i was tripping so that wasn't the biggest deal in the world.

I am walls1441 and i approved this message.

I never loved them, but I liked Blink-182 when I saw them back in 02 on the pop disaster tour.

They played after Green Day, who was great, and they pretty much sucked. Also, Jimmy Eat World opened, who I also liked, and they were god awful.

i was kinda disappointed with tokyo police club when i saw them recently...even though i gave them the benefit of the doubt due to guitar tech issues. the dudes guitar was out for a whole song at one point.

to add to CTA's future thread, one of the openers that night Eagle*Seagull was great live, but their debut album sounded like crap to me.

that's what you'd think, right? I've seen them four times and it's always boring. They look so awesome on the dvds, but it's just not exciting at all.

i was extremely impressed with Jimmy Eat World when I saw them last year. Im not even that into their last few albums but I love their early stuff and they sounded great and had a lot of energy in charlotte last year.

although i saw them in a lot smaller venue than you probably saw green day and blink 182 in. JEW is not an arena band. they just dont show well there.

I liked Hoobastank's first cd, but when I heard the singer live on the radio singing "Reason", it was horrid. He couldn't hit his pitches worth shit, nor sustain any note that he sang.

Garfunkel was awesome live
Nickel Creek was a little busy (sound-wise), and they sound better with studio atmosphere than on an indoor concert stage.

Radiohead only disappointed me because they didn't play Karma Police.

Shins were bad because the sound was horrible at lollapalooza 06.

I'll be seeing them live next week and maybe in Boston towards the end of October so I hope the problem was a technical issue.

I felt like that about Built to Spill.

They sound great live, but the 20+ minute jamming out didn't do it for me.

was going to say that.

saw them circa 97ish in Charlotte .... and it was trash. Maybe it was the noise ordinance but sitting on the lawn you could barely hear the band.

what Death Cab show have you been to that disappointed you? the one at Reynolds? the harmonics in there were just aweful, I hope that's what you're talking about, because the show they played at Disco Rodeo back in ~2003 w/ Stars was the best live show I've ever been to (out of probably 60-70 shows), absolutely incredible.
