I'm gonna guess you're just depressed and that, when the post-workout "high" wears off, you feel like shit again. Alternatively, if you're working out too hard, consider going light for a couple of weeks to give yourself a little extra rest (sometimes this is all you need, your body will get a little screwed up and you'll feel like shit for a while). If you're only working out once, sometimes twice a week, consider increasing it. I found I can feel the same way when I don't get enough exercise (sort of a "dammit, I need to get rid of this energy " feeling). If you're stuck in a routine, just try changing it up a little bit. I get bored stupid when I do the same thing repeatedly for months at a time, too, and as a result I stop doing it after a while.
This is also the only serious reply you should get in this thread.

^ Yeah, you're probably depressed and after the workout high wears off you feel like shit. Change your schedule and deal with the shit in your life that's bothering you or you'll continue to feel this way. I deal with depression (currently and in the past) by finding stuff to do. I feel great after being at work from 7am-10:10pm today, haha.

Spending that much time at the gym at a time would depress me. I usually never spend more than an hour there, 30-1 cardion then 2 times a week with weight training for an hour 9/3/2008 11:23:44 PM |
Mindstorm All American 15858 Posts user info edit post |
Oh, you're probably working out too hard unless you've been training like that for years and years and are actually in spectacular shape. That's my opinion anyway. How long have you been working out like that? If the answer is less than a year I'd consider dropping a day or two a week to give your body more recovery time. You'll get depressed/feel like shit if your body doesn't get much rest between those long workouts.
Edit: At the very least, try doing 1.5 hours of cardio on odd days and 1.5 hours of weight training on even days. This will let you change up the muscles you workout so you aren't tearing the shit out of the same muscles every single day. You may think you need to workout that much to get in better shape/lose weight/whatever somebody told you but you really don't. An hour a day 5-6 times a week would be more than enough (and a hell of a lot more than what most people do), as long as you're exercising hard enough and getting your heart rate up (eating right, etc).
With your current plan I'd say you're just wore the fuck out and need to ease up a bit and let your body recover.

1.5 weeks.

Mindstorm All American 15858 Posts user info edit post |
1.5 weeks? Yeah you can't rush into a workout like that anywhere near that fast. Try doing an hour of cardio 3 times a week and weight train for an hour2 times a week, and on your days where you aren't exercising, ice up and rest your sore muscles. If you're doing it right, that should be more than enough to wear you out if you're just starting an exercise routine. What you're doing will just fuck you up in the long run, and it might end up being detrimental to your overall strength (your body will start breaking down muscle and fat if you don't eat enough while working out that hard, and I imagine that just 1.5 weeks in you haven't adapted your diet for your higher activity levels).
Slow it down. :E 9/3/2008 11:28:45 PM |

Yeah, I definately have been eating bigger meals, and three a day which is unusual. I also can't smoke period now that I'm working out which I really like - no matter how bad the cravings, the smell of it makes me sick.
I'll consider easing it up. Thanks for the advice. 9/3/2008 11:30:27 PM |

Yeah NP. I used to be entirely inactive and did jack shit. I've had varying levels of activity over the past several years and I've figured out by now that if I just rush into something and work myself to death (especially without recovery periods like you are) I'll pretty much just end up wishing I was dead. 9/3/2008 11:32:36 PM |

I do about 3 hours of cardio 5 days a week, and then during tournaments it's like doing 11 hours of cardio in two days.

Like I reaaaaaaaaaally hate the gym which is why I like to have a gym buddy (oh new thread I keep forgetting to make!) I get bored way too easy though.
I like to play sports for exercise, but it's hard to get enough actual exercise in. I play softball 3 times a week, and that's fun and all but I know I need to get in the gym more I just need to get into a routine and then it's not so bad to go alone. 9/4/2008 9:12:44 AM |

see, I prefer to work out alone with music. I have a friend that always tries to "meet me at the gym". 50% of the time I change my workout schedule to meet him, he doesn't show up. The 50% of the time when he actually shows up, it just makes my workout take twice as long.
Before I lost my job I got into a really good routine. I was going every night after work like clockwork. Started to really make some good gains, was dropping weight, feeling better. Then when I lost my job and my car blew up I just kind of stopped going. Now that things are getting back to normal, I'm looking forward to getting back on that routine. Just made me feel so good about myself.

Sounds like you need to start playing a sport that's fun! Going to the gym and reading a magazine on the elliptical is boring - it makes exercise into a chore and I hate that. Do you live in Raleigh? You should join a sports team of some kind. softball's a good start but it's not very strenuous. 9/4/2008 9:36:41 AM |

there's gotta be some community sports teams where you live, why not look for soccer or something? You can also check out running groups for people training for races. Or a group class at the gym, like Spinning. A good instructor can make the class a lot of fun, and if you make friends it'll be motivation to show up. 9/4/2008 9:48:44 AM |

I almost always take a nap a half hour to hour after weight training if my schedule allows it.
I can't do the sauna hot tub without a cool pool next to me after a workout because I will pass out, no ifs ands or buts about it, my butt will be out.
Working out does so many good things for me that I can't believe I hadn't done it before.
