I don't normally hear myself on tape but when I did I was surprised how valley girlish my voice sounded like.

when i hear my voice in a recording or something, it reminds me why i get stereotyped as ignorant white trash so much.

i've always thought i sound weird when i hear myself on a recording...but i've gotten to the point where i realize other people probably think i sound normal.

the problem, though, is that the vast majority of recordings that people hear of themselves are on low end media recorded with low end microphones...since they're not high quality, it distorts your voice so it sounds different, anyway

I don't love it but I know I can train it with practice

I want to learn a speech and take some voice acting classes

I'm so buying a Shure SM-57 and an M-Audio usb fast track device to make high-end voice recordings as soon as this grant money comes through

No.

I have a high pitched, loud, nasal voice. For reasons. But that doesn't change it.

I worked as a traffic reporter for 4 years and still know there are voices waaaay better than mine...I was decent enough sounding to last for those 4 years though

I don't know if this is the reason, because if you ever hear a recording or watch a video of you and your friends or family, you will hear most everyone else the way that normally sound, and you alone will sound different to yourself. The recording quality is a constant.

I think I sound nasally and it doesn't sound that way when I hear myself talk, only in recordings. HATE IT

i respectfully disagree

seems to me that since you've never actually heard your own voice except through the filter of your own body or through the playback, your mind doesn't have an idea of what it's "supposed" to sound like

while you've heard your friends' and family's voices for years...so it seems like, perhaps, your brain might fill in any discrepancies

or who cares?

Overall I like it, apparently it sounds deep if I've just woken up so the girlfriend says. And oddly older black women like it. Sometimes if I speak too fast it sounds nasally, though.

^^I could almost go with that, except that in the same way you have heard them for years and could fill in the gaps between how they actually sound, and how they sound when recorded, could you not do the same thing with the way you perceive yourself to "normally" sound?

In middleschool, I thought I had strep throat--raspy and sore. In 2 days, my voice went from little kid to man.

I hate my voice because it is weird. I used to get made fun of as a kid about it. Well, actually now as an adult it doesn't bother me quite as much.

i like it well enough. where i worked (since i occasionally make announcements over an intercom system) i've been told i should be on the radio. subsequently i've gone on the state of things on wunc talking politics, and done a few radio commercials for my work place on a different radio station, and will be on there again live for a charity event later this month. i also got a one liner on an nbc17 local politics story saying something dorky like "here's some campaign literature."

i never sound the same on-air or on a recording as i do in my head, and that's a little disconcerting, but i don't dislike my voice.

So for the most part the only people who like them are those who have gotten paid to use them ... interesting.

I don't like mine either. I sound too squeaky.
