GG!
I have a confession to make: I have NEVER had a Krispy Kreme donut. And I intend to keep it that way for as long as I can.
What's special about them anyway? I mean, I have had donuts before, both store bought, and homemade (not made by me). Probably 10-15 ever in my whole life. And the last one was I believe 2 years ago, and before that, 20 years ago [no joke].
So, what's special about a KK donut? Convince me what I should try one.9/7/2008 5:54:22 PM |

they're completely different than any dunkin donuts or anything like that.
they're not cakey, they're light and fluffy. get them while they're warm and they'll practically melt in your mouth.
i've never had a donut like the ones at krispy kreme anywhere else. 9/7/2008 5:56:57 PM |

no no, it is not like that. see, i don't plan on eating donuts ever again. it could happen a few times in my remaining life, but i don't plan on it. previously when i have had them, again, that was unplanned. but i think i will have to make a trip to KK soon. btw, i am not in the US, and KK just opened here for the first time a few months back. and when i was in the US (1996-2003), interestingly, i never heard about them!
ok, since you guys are so good at convincing, i will go there soon! do they have filled ones as well? like filled with custard (not cream, but custard)? or with summer fruits/berries, etc? i would prefer a filled one to a plain one. i have had the dunkin donuts custard filled one a couple of times, and i liked it.

IMHO KK doughnuts are much better than DD. If you really want to try one make sure it is a hot and fresh one. As far as the non-plain ones go I love the cream filed ones.
When I was in my teens and eating junk food often I could eat a few KK doughnuts and love them. Regular, creme filled, jelly filled, powdered and love every second of it. Nowadays I have found that if I eat more than one it makes me sick. I am just not used to foods that are so "over the top."
You should absolutely try them though. 9/7/2008 6:13:58 PM |
ScHpEnXeL Suspended 32613 Posts user info edit post |
I'd def suggest you only eat one that is fresh (i.e. the "hot" sign will be on..) also, I'd at least try one of the regular plain ones 9/7/2008 6:15:49 PM |

they have filled ones, but you can't get them hot. if you go, at least have one plain hot one. if not, you'll just be like "i still don't know what all the noise is about"
[Edited on September 7, 2008 at 6:23 PM. Reason : and yes, they have custard. raspberry too.]
[Edited on September 7, 2008 at 6:25 PM. Reason : the plain hot ones are the only ones worth the calories imo] 9/7/2008 6:22:35 PM |

since you guys explained it well (and while being nice), i will definitely go very soon. there is one in a mall a 7-minute walk from my place. and yes, you are right, i must have at least a plain one to actually taste the stuff itself.

what donuts aren't [sugary]?
btw, i have a sweet tooth as well, but being a health-through-nutrition nut, self-control as well.
i saw baked donuts in starbucks in london last month, but for some reason i can't remember now, didn't try them.
also, at heathrow airport terminal 3 KK, i saw a poster for special summer-only pomegranate-raspberry filled donuts. i wanted to try, but they were the special for july, and it was already august i didn't bother asking what was the special one for august.
btw, here is a nice recipe by one of the best internet blogging chefs ever:
