So here's the scoop I bought myname.com for fun and mainly the learning experience. I am really just looking for ideas for what to do with it. I dont really have a need for a website now. As of now I am just planning to use it for email. I placed google apps on the domain but would like a log in for gmail. Whenever I got myname.com, can anyone help me out with this?

how to use Google Apps for your Domain? Did you go through the configuration on Google Apps? They tell you pretty plainly how to, for example, use mail.myname.com as your mail URL

The default (and always available address) for your email is:

http://mail.google.com/a/domainname.com
