I need the number for a local mechanic. My car won't start, and I think it's a starter or alternator problem. The battery works (the lights and radio turn on) but when I go to turn the key all I get is a ticking sound. I live near Cameron Village and am in need of a local mechanic that is fairly cheap/reliable and can work on Toyota/Lexus. Please help. Thanks 9/9/2008 8:20:44 AM |

Correct me if I'm wrong but if the battery were dead I don't think the radio and lights would still work. I tried jumping it anyway but it still wouldn't turn over. 9/9/2008 9:11:03 AM |

the battery has enough juice to run the radio and the lights (most likely very dimly) but not enough to start
happens all the time 9/9/2008 9:13:53 AM |

yup, what ^ said is correct. I guarantee when you turn the key the voltage is dropping to like 6. Get a friend to take you to advance, get a battery, change said battery (you seriously only need like one wrench to do this--don't pay someone). If that doesn't fix it then take the battery back and then worry about finding a shop
just read that you tried jumping it.. sometimes that still doesn't work but having said that i doubt it is the battery. next guess would be the starter but i don't know any mechanics around there bc i dont pay ppl to work on my car

or better yet since you are an idiot for arguing with the garage masters i think you should push the car to advance where they'll install the battery correctly for free. 9/9/2008 9:21:00 AM |

bring the battery up to advance. we'll either tell you it's dead and sell you a new one or charge it for you for free. 9/9/2008 9:35:01 AM |

when i had a mustang, the clicking when you try to turn it on meant a dead battery
on my little brother's saturn, however, the clicking meant a bad starter 9/9/2008 10:06:57 AM |
