That 1% is a huge fucking chance to take. If it does create a black hole then the world is absolutely fucked. How many times per week do you put your life at risk even 1%? Not very many. Now, we as a planet have decided to put everything at a 1% risk of being destroyed.

I read an interview with a scientist that said if a black hole is created it will be to small to have any sort of gravitational pull and will most likely pass through the Earth, even then it would take several hundreds of years before it gets large enough to even be a problem.

they aren't doing anything remotely world-ending tomorrow. they are sending a proton around the ring one way, then the other way. this is mostly prep stuff to make sure it's ready for the stuff they are doing next month. and then they won't even do the interesting stuff until spring
