Or maybe they spent a lot of time promoting these events (while actively denying they weren't) and most of their talking heads were attending these "tea parties" too.

they covered what their audience wanted to see. no one was forced to watch.

they were rallying on a cause that a large portion of our population values and is adamant about . it was a clear expression by americans to the gov't that would have otherwise been diluted, devalued, and ignored. other news sources are incapable of any skeptical reporting that might question the liberal controlled govt. the fox news talking heads had the means to amplify the protesters voice nationwide, since it was being deliberately neglected everywhere else.

as stupid as the tea parties were, their cause was all too real and significant. if you dont like it, then dont watch. fox news obviously doesnt need your support and will not cater to the traditional bias coverage. you would think that would ratings suicide, and yet its had the opposite effect.

You know how you get on Wikipedia to look up one thing, and then 30 minutes later you're looking at something completely different and you have no idea how you got there? Well, in the course of looking up the Lost Colony, I ended up reading about Insane Clown Posse*.

Having totally forgotten about ICP, I looked around online and was amused to find that there are a lot of grown up people who still take ICP really seriously. Like, REALLY seriously. And they're still mad--REALLY mad--that every music journalist in the world doesn't recognize that the rapping assholes in clown paint are the greatest thing ever to happen to music ever. They think that something is wrong with the system, with journalism, with the world, and basically have it in their heads that music journalism, as a whole, is out to get them.

What I'm getting at is that the mainstream media's dismissal and ridicule of the tea parties is perceived by some to be a problem with the system. The reality of the matter is simply that the tea parties were fucking retarded beyond all comprehension, and the presence of people who are too stupid to realize this does not mean that the rest of the world is biased.

The end.

* Lost Colony -> Lumbee Indians -> Famous Lumbees -> some Lumbee rapper -> Insane Clown Posse

In fairness, none of the networks should really have been reporting that story at all... it's acceptable as a single line or two between other real news stories, maybe... but to be extensively covering the president ordering a fucking burger is insanity, regardless of the spin.

Greta Van Susteren Saves Ana Marie Cox's Life

Quote :
"Cox, sitting alone, and Van Susteren, with her hubby, John Coale, were aboard a New York-to-Washington Amtrak train last month when Cox suddenly fell ill, her throat tightening from an allergic reaction. 'They have this lentil salad on the train, and it happened almost immediately after that,' recalled Cox, who is not sure what caused the 'indescribably terrifying' attack."

Quote :
"A food allergy sufferer herself, Greta was ready with a backup plan: She carries an EpiPen epinephrine shot for her own emergencies. 'If she hadn't been there, I don't know what would have happened. It would have been a thousand times worse,' says Cox."

Quote :
"The two didn't see each other afterward until last weekend's White House Correspondents' Association dinner, when the star of On the Record With Greta Van Susteren and the host of Air America's The Inside Story bumped into each other in the ladies' room. Cox offered a very sincere 'thank you for saving my life.' Later, Van Susteren told us, 'I didn't do anything heroic. I did what anyone would have done.'"

uhhh.... i'm not sure any of the complaints ever lodged against Fox News were anything like "their employees are evil" or "they would go out of their way to not help a person in need if said person worked for a liberal radio station"

^^ Oh, you care--and so do the rest of your cohorts.

In any event, the story about Van Susteren didn't get widespread coverage in the MSM. Strange.

And you're right. No liberals here or elsewhere think that FOX News is evil--how silly of me.

why the fuck should it get widespread coverage? At best, it's a fluff piece, and there's plenty of other stuff to report on right now.

I don't know what hooksaw's point is. Am I supposed to see Fox News in a better light because some commentator did what she was morally obligated to do by granting the use of her EpiPen for someone in anaphylactic shock?

1) it would be the other way around - the MSNBC extreme slant started significantly after FOX News went off the rails
2) apparently, nobody watches MSNBC - Fox's ratings are significantly higher
3) MSNBC may have liberal commentators to go head to head with Fox's conservative commentators (Olbermann, Maddow, Matthews vs. Hannity, Beck, O'Reilly), but their news coverage doesn't hold a candle to the extreme bias in Fox's so-called news shows. Like I mentioned earlier, after watching Fox News for 2 weeks straight, it became very apparent to me that the morning, mid-day and evening "news shows" were really just commentators, like Beck and O'Reilly, dressed up and told to not shout and pretend to be an unbiased news anchor.

I'm just saying I think the story at issue should have gotten a bit more coverage. And if it had been someone like, say, Katie Couric or any other "progressive" journalist, I'm confidant that it would have received wider play.

Katie Couric is not a good analogue to Greta Van Susteran. One is the anchor of one of the "big 3" network nightlies and has been a widely known public figure for at least 20 years, and the other is a mid-range cable host who most people wouldn't recognize if they ran into on the street, or, i don't know, if they were handed an EpiPen while in the middle of an allergy attack.

and back to your "fox news is evil" argument - sure, there are plenty of people who claim that Fox News, as an entity, is "evil", although that is a commonly used hyperbole and doesn't equate to the literal or historical definition of having to do with the devil. But again, I think you would be hard pressed to find people who would actually claim that normal Fox News employees (especially an employee like Van Susteran, who I've never heard in the same sentence or criticism as Beck, Hannity, etc) would do something as deplorable as withholding a life-saving drug from someone going into shock.

if only they would have ways to help people in the stories they report on. this is assuming they have stories where people need actual help.

also i think that CNN will have growing ratings as the years go on since they have started targeting a younger, more tech savvy demographic of course i could be wrong. never underestimate the number of stupid people

Ha, like that hologram projector they used election night?

If anything, cable news is the best possible argument in favor of newspapers. They never yell at you, they don't blind you with flashing sirens and graphics, and George Will is a lot more bearable than Glenn Beck. Not to mention Will has a college education. And remaining brain cells.

Evan Thomas, editor of Newsweek chatting with Chris Matthews...

Quote :
"Reagan was all about America, and he talked about it. Obama is "we are above that now. we're not just parochial, we're not just chauvinistic, we're not just provincial. We stand for something, I mean, in a way Obama is standing above the country, above the world. He's sort of God. He's gonna bring all different sides together""

What is it with the press these days? To them, presidents are either ignorant evil over-lords (Bush) or sort of Gods that we bow to(Obama). There's no in-between. No acknowledgement that these guys are merely human politicians.

If you're referring to FOX News in general, that's not the case, according to the Pew Research Center.

Fox News is ranked 14th of 16 listed in the "high knowledge group" (people who answered >=15 of 23 questions), and is exactly at the nationwide average. only beating out "network morning shows".....

^ Yes, the "nationwide" percentage of the "high knowledge group." In any event, the "dumb people" comment is a stereotype.
