Anyone have a RV account from DirectTV?

I was going to get one for tailgating, but my parent's directTV service is on the coast not Raleigh. I was told that you can't get local stations out of your "local" area. Is this true?

I don't know what the pricing differences are, but if you just have a regular, activated receiver, and acquire the dish yourself (ebay or otherwise), it will "just work." And you should be able to get local channels outside of your local area, most of the time. The way the box discriminates local channels is by the zip code you enter on set up (this zip code is also used to generate the angles that you should aim the dish, so be sure to compensate for this).

According to one person ad Direct, if I just get a dish, it will work - no extra costs, etc.

According to another person there, I have to get a new box, that's designated as the RV box, get my own satellite and it will work

According to a third person, the same as above, but you can't get local channels, if you're not in that local channel area.

The box would have to be set up in the same area code (according to them) in order to be considered as just another box on the home account. A different area code would require a separate account, with full account charges.

I was told by someone that has an account you did get local channels, but the channels where your account is setup at (but I think he lives and uses it in Raleigh).

If you just get a dish, and use a receiver from home or wherever, it'll work and you'll have your locals from back home. If you want Raleigh locals, you'll need another account. I'm pretty sure only the HD receivers have the ability to use an antenna to tune to locals elsewhere.

You can also get a new receiver and dish, and that'll work. You'll still get your parents' Greensboro locals though. Just get a receiver and dish from ebay or something.

That's not correct. The area for the local channels is determined by the information on the access card, not the zip code you enter during setup. The only thing the zip code makes a difference with is if you're using one of the HD receivers and want to receive locals for a secondary market, which is another option.
