Just heard on good authority that gas prices will likely be going up about $1 a gallon in the next 24-48 hours, thanks to Hurricane Ike.

i call bullshit on this thread.

oil prices still dropped today in the market. either way the price hikes will be regionally effected. not nationally

here, I'll help you out. check out what the AP says about it

http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5i5TtajgUpSm7KY5jf-lCJGHBB-tAD934J1QO1

Quote :
"NEW YORK (AP) — Gasoline prices jumped to unprecedented levels in the wholesale markets Thursday as Hurricane Ike tore across the Gulf of Mexico, threatening to strike Texas and its refineries.

The wholesale price of gasoline ranged from $4 to nearly $5 a gallon at the U.S. Gulf Coast on Thursday, said Tom Kloza, publisher and chief oil analyst of the Oil Price Information Service in Wall, N.J. That is up significantly from about $3 to $3.30 a gallon on Wednesday, Kloza said.

"We're looking at the highest wholesale prices ever for a huge swath of the country," he said. "People understand that regardless what happens with Ike, it's going to shut down the biggest refining cluster for a period of five, six, seven days."

The wholesale price of gasoline is what refineries charge retailers. Retailers then mark up those prices for the customer so they can make a profit — so if these wholesale prices hold, it could mean that pump prices for U.S. drivers easily break through the July 17 record of $4.114 a gallon."

I spent $113 on gas just for yesterday. I had to drive about 600 miles round trip to SC though, for an interview.

Tacoma... gas crunch proof

100 miles per first three quarter-tanks, then the damn needle speeds up
no gas light, no problem, though

So it's gonna go up for a week and then come back down? Maybe I'll take some extra tanks, then when people are really bitching, tell them I'll sell it for a few cents less than the gas stations. My gf just told me about this, said her friends dad works for Cary Oil and they're expecting a big jump.

Funny, I filled up yesterday and it was the lowest I've seen in weeks. I only have to fill up around every 10-12 days so by then I'm sure prices will be back down post Ike, if Ike even increases prices (which I doubt).

So no worries.

Oh, and scooter people, how much fun are those scooters when you need to carry luggage and when its raining? Enjoy.

Hess on Capital by downtown was $3.51 - but there were mad people in line backing up Capital (of course that gas station is always packed)

haha, what a retarded post...what "luggage" do i need to carry? if i can't fit it in my backpack, i'm probably going farther than a scooter would reasonably take me, anyway

as for rain, i admit that i rarely ride in the rain...fortunately, since i can fully expect to have more days of sun than rain, it's still WELL worth it

i get nearly 100mpg against the 32mpg my saturn gets in the city...i drive it roughly 15 days a month (the other 15 are weekends or days it's raining)...4 months have PAID for my scooter

so yeah, i don't give a fuck if gas goes up to $10/gallon...hell, make it $15...i consider the 38mpg highway my saturn gets to be pathetic...thank heaven i'm not so stupid to have a truck/SUV as my main method of transportation

I got it for $3.49 in SC yesterday. How much does a scooter cost anyway? Not that I'm gonna go run buy one, I can't anyway... I've just been curious about it since I've seen so many more on the roads.
