Quote : | "“If you’ve got a gun in your house, I’m not taking it,’’ Obama said. But the Illinois senator could still see skeptics in the crowd, particularly on the faces of several men at the back of the room.
So he tried again. “Even if I want to take them away, I don’t have the votes in Congress,’’ he said. “This can’t be the reason not to vote for me. Can everyone hear me in the back? ^^, the ruling wasn't as broad as gun ownership in general. It didn't really address ownership of individuals vs ownership of militias.

although the ruling was pretty vague and left most people confused how it would apply to different levels of govt. But even if Pelosi wanted to ban all guns she couldn't for the exact reason JCASHFAN pointed out - she doesn't have the votes. ] 9/12/2008 7:07:48 PM |

Lets continue the quotes shall we:
Quote : | "I think it is a scandal that this president did not authorize a renewal of the assault weapons ban." | Except that the weapons classified as assault weapons under this act are used in the commission of < 1% of all crimes. The AWB served no purpose except to open the door for further regulation.
And then there is his obfuscation on his, or at least his campaign's stance on banning handguns:
Quote : | "Actually, Obama's writing was on the 1996 document, which was filed when Obama was running for the Illinois state Senate. A Chicago nonprofit, Independent Voters of Illinois, had this question, and Obama took hard line:
35. Do you support state legislation to: a. ban the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns? Yes. b. ban assault weapons? Yes. c. mandatory waiting periods and background checks? Yes.
Obama's campaign said, "Sen. Obama didn't fill out these state Senate questionnaires--a staffer did--and there are several answers that didn't reflect his views then or now. He may have jotted some notes on the front page of the questionnaire, but some answers didn't reflect his views." " |
Ok, I'm going to quit now and not turn this into a TSB thread. ]9/12/2008 7:13:38 PM |

I like Palin just because she isn't afraid of guns. I'm from the country; You were the minority (and a moron) if you didn't have a few in the house. I don't think it's an issue of them trying to take urrr gunnnz. There is no way they could ever get them all. Given the choice, I'd much rather have a guillotine for my personal safety, but logistically I can't carry enough baskets to keep heads in.
Anecdote about women and guns: my husband's 81yo, 100 pound grandmother can shoot faster than a crip at wu-tang concert.
