The message makes some people feel good...
But from a musical standpoint it is complete and total garbage, in some cases borderline infringement of past works by other artists. There is no originality, no technical or musical skill displayed, and very little variance. Absolute crap that no one with any sort of musical taste should be caught listening to. 9/13/2008 3:12:38 AM |

In theory, the message is awesome. In practice, the message has somewhat little relevance and is often poorly delivered, even misinterpreted. 9/13/2008 3:19:17 AM |

^ In theory, the message is terrible. Telling anyone that they are the chosen people, and their job is to convert everyone else can never end up good. 9/13/2008 3:24:39 AM |

STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM THIS SHIT.
Some of the Grace folks are in this old picture of Stiletto
I may not be the best of Christians, but I think I'm good enough with the Lord to know when something about a church is not right. These "Jesus freaks" are bordering on cult, stay the fuck away. 9/13/2008 9:15:44 AM |

Well, they pretty much guilt you into hanging out with them, and only them, as often as possible. These people live with each other, marry each other. You're not really welcomed into the church until you do so. It defeats the purpose of fulfilling the Great Commission (Matthew 28), since you can't help and bring the Good News to the world if you don't allow yourself to know the world you're trying to help. That, and for a church, there isn't that much spiritual growth going on.
[Edited on September 13, 2008 at 9:24 AM. Reason : I don't know what Stiletto's involvment was. ] 9/13/2008 9:21:49 AM |

^ Truth. A guy I knew in high school started going there because his new girlfriend was a member. Before we knew it the only time we heard from him was him either trying to get us to check the place out or telling us how we're going to hell It was kind of sad because he used to be a pretty chill, nice guy. I don't think anyone has heard from him in 5 years after he figured out we weren't going to join the cult 9/13/2008 9:34:55 AM |
chembob Yankee Cowboy 27011 Posts user info edit post |
Yea, I never became a member, just hung around the edges. Left because I really didn't have the time or the inclination for it. Wasn't really missed, though. I know most of the people in that photo, however, and when they ask me why I haven't come, I reply that I grew beyond their kind of Christianity. That usually shuts them up. 9/13/2008 9:38:13 AM |

I really liked the people at Grace, and liked hanging out with them, but my boyfriend (now fiance) didn't. They didn't like that we didn't do everything together with them. They also didn't like that we dated for three years before we were engaged, and are waiting another 9 months before the wedding. I'm still friends with a lot of them, just outside the context of the church (and those people only because I knew them pre-Grace). When I told them we were engaged, their only response was "FINALLY."They like to date for 3-6 months, be engaged for 3-6 months, married for 3-6 months then start trying to have kids.
I do think they're nice people, and I think they're good people, they just have a different view on relationships and life than I do. It also bothered me that women weren't allowed to lead "homegroups" or their version of Bible Study. 9/13/2008 10:01:10 AM |

I don't know what all this cult talk is about. It seemed like a pretty normal church to me when I went. Folks were friendly, and yes, they did hang out a lot. Not exactly Nike's and Kool-Aid. Come to think of it, I don't remember much hellfire and damnation talk either. I do remember that the music was good, as Christian music goes. 9/13/2008 12:16:21 PM |
