Been waiting on this game for a while. They pushed the US release date back to September 15th because of some CD key issues. If anyone has played STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl (takes place after Clear Sky), then you know what's going on with the RPG/FPS style.

Anyone played it yet? I'll probably be buying it through steam when it's released. Didn't want to mess with finding a Russian rip and patching it. 9/13/2008 4:45:26 PM |

I visit a forum with a bunch of euro's, and they give it mixed reviews.
Most say it's good, but there are a ton of bugs, and some of the features apparently aren't as cool as you would think they would be .
But if you liked the first one, you'll like this one. 9/13/2008 5:04:12 PM |

Yeah, looking forward to this one based on expectations the first created. I heard the Russian verions had a lot of bugs but it was released months ago (?), so I was hoping they'd be worked out by the time this made it to a US release. 9/13/2008 5:22:53 PM |

I played the original, and while it looked pretty awesome and had tons of potential, it was plagued with bug after bug after bug
I got so pissed when the ending I got (it having at least 3-4 endings, being rpgish) killed my character in a cutscene, without warning me before or giving me the chance to save or anything
what's the point in creating a relatively big and ongoing world with rival factions if they're going to kill you in a cutscene?
just too many bugs in the first one for me to really even consider buying this one, which is sad potential down the drain 9/14/2008 11:27:13 AM |

I ran into a couple bugs in the first one but nothing major that made it unplayable. 9/14/2008 4:24:47 PM |

I found an english copy. Going to install it this weekend. Don't know if it's an actually english copy or a patched russian one. 9/18/2008 6:44:57 PM |

Just installed it. No bugs yet, and it looks simply beautiful. Makes me want to upgrade my 8800gtx. I have the settings on medium and get 25-30fps outside. 9/19/2008 6:18:31 PM |

I've had a chance now to get to the point where you are back in Cordon. I wiped out ever single renegade in the swamps. It's pretty fun so far, still in the spirit of the first game.
The only down side I've noticed so far is you have to maintain control of areas and you can't let them be overrun. The problem comes when you are out exploring and they give you a mission to protect an area with about 20 seconds to drop whatever it was you were doing, trek halfway across the map, and successfully defend it. Otherwise you fail the mission.
You can always reclaim the area, but you probably miss out on the 'quest' reward.

Ok i'm at the part after the defense part where you have to leave the area and go talk to some dude. I come out of a tunnel and there's military everywhere and they have me pinned down behind a tree. No idea what to do. Tried waiting until it got dark but they could still see me. 9/20/2008 2:18:55 PM |

Yeah, that part was a pain. The only thing I was able to do there is run from rock to rock (there's like two rocks) headed north toward Cordon chomping first aid kits the whole way. You first have to run due east until you are far enough out to start heading north because of that fence that is in your way.
I'm definitely showing back up to that military base later in the game when I have better equipment.

Watch out. This game is very, very buggy. There are many bugs that occur in the main quests, like scripted events that never occur - leaving you stuck forever with nothing to do. I don't get the crash to the desktop bugs, just the kind that keep you from progressing/doing missions.
My advice... create a manual save every 30 minutes. That way when you hit one of these game ending bugs you'll have lost a half hour at most.
