A.) Feeling like you belong at the risk of being assimilated or B.) Being special and temporarily rejected with the possibility of respect later on when people change their opinion about you?
Let's be practical here, folks. I'm still a B but sometimes A is so tempting. I don't try to be either one, I guess I just fit naturally closer to the B range or something.] 9/13/2008 11:02:57 PM |

you don't have to stick out to be "different." If you're being different just to stick out, you're doing it wrong. 9/14/2008 10:00:58 AM |

Most people who know me in person would say I'm moderately qualified to speak on this topic
The real question is, are you being "special and temporarily rejected" because that is who you are, or have you defined yourself outside of the mainstream intentionally, because you're afraid to fact the fact that you're probably not as special as you think you are?
I'd venture to say that only a few unique souls fall purely in the first category. The rest of us fall somewhere in the middle leaning towards the second category. The trick is to let life round off the unnecessarily rough edges while retaining the qualities that make you who you are . . . and retaining a keen edge of wit or whatnot somewhere on yourself.
Either way, those who are "special" out of fear of being rejected are no different, at their core, than those who assimilate out of fear of being rejected. Figure out what you like about yourself and be confident enough to begin stepping beyond self imposed protective walls which serve as much to keep you cloistered from reality as they do to keep reality at bay.
If any of that makes sense. 9/14/2008 10:02:31 AM |
