it's the laziest of the services (unless your one of the hardcore special forces guys)
you want to enlist? officer? i mean you could be a fighter pilot or you could wind up sitting in a silo for days on end 9/17/2008 3:32:23 AM |

they are pretty lenient on the vision. i'm not gonna be a fighter pilot and i wear contacts. i know it's the "laziest" of the services, but i mean, i'm not really marine material. but i think it may be a good decision for me to change my life so dramatically i could break out of my self-destructive cycle that i have been in since like, high school. i was thinking about eod. 9/17/2008 3:41:58 AM |

in all seriousness, the air force isn't all that bad. i enjoyed my time in the navy. my guess is that if you're EOD material, you'd be marine material....at least in the Navy those dudes do some hardcore training and are in as good a shape as SEALs for the most part.
personally, I went navy because of the travel and overseas work. i went to ~20 countries in my 5 years in after graduating from the academy
if you have a college degree, I strongly suggest officer route. not that enlisted is bad, but the pay is terrible
heck if you do get in, you can get the military to do your laser surgery for free! when i was at the academy during the late 90's, it wasn't approved for pilots. then PRK was allowed...not sure if lasik is 9/17/2008 4:00:07 AM |

i was also thinking sear, but i don't really wanna go through torture training. i dunno. i'm tired of being all soft. it's getting really old. like, really old. 9/17/2008 4:04:42 AM |
goalielax All American 11252 Posts user info edit post |
when you say soft, do you mean mentally? emotionally? physically?
any kind of service is going to toughen you up...boot camp/OCS isn't a cakewalk and that's just the basic stuff. you'll get broken down to some degree and then built back up. at the academy it was 6 weeks of plebe summer before freshman year started. in that 6 weeks i really changed from what i was in high school...it made me a much harder person in all aspects 9/17/2008 4:16:48 AM |

navy! i would do the navy. because that is what i want to do. IF i decide to serve my country, that is. i'm still on the fence. i thought about the airforce, too though. 9/17/2008 7:23:30 AM |

you'll have to do PT and its administered by lots of ex-military people but you don't have to contribute into any sort of violent, nationalistic superstructure 9/17/2008 10:32:35 AM |

yeah, my brother is about to get out of the chair force. If you're not going in as an officer, don't do it. It is easy, however. And, they give you allowances for living, so you bank most of the money you make. Even more if you're an officer, obviously.
My brother was like "you know how you wonder how three doors down, creed and nickelback sell like a bazillion records? and you know how you wonder who all these people are that are buying these records? well now I know. they're all in the military."

when i say soft, i mean mentally, physically and emotionally. i need to toughen up and somehow learn to make my own way. i don't know much about the navy, although i am interested in many different avenues. maybe i'll check them out as well. 9/17/2008 7:57:26 PM |

I take it you got rid of all of those criminal records? I'd be surprised if they just overlook that. Although I've heard that they've lowered requirements so it may not matter at all.
