It seems to be isolated to this computer and I have done a google search for a it a billion times...

It apparently is a somewhat common error. I've tried a few things.... um spybot, adaware, cccleaner, scandisk, defrag, tuneuputilities, registry mechanic, reinstalling firefox, using ie, reinstalling java, trying no script addon for firefox, ipconfig /flushdns, hijackthis!, checked hosts file.......

ummm there's probably more but Ive pretty much done everything short of format and reinstall (or use linux)

Basically whenever I try and access the photobucket domain i get a dns error. Anyone using my internet here (except on this particular computer) has no problem.

My photobucket account has a ton of pics saved on it ... I cant access them nor can I view other people's photobucket pics...

The most amusing thing is the number of people who have this error who are told to go to the photobucket forums.... ummm how can i get there if i get a dns error to the photobucket domain? I suppose I could use another computer but still heh its kinda dumb.

Ive looked at those pages using google's cache and nothing they've said I havent done.

Im just looking for new and fresh ideas besides throw the computer out the window. I kinda like this one.

I guess if it's dns then I could find the actual IP address to photobucket and try it that way? I could put it in my hosts file manually so I could bypass the dns lookup in the first place? Would that work?

command prompt

nslookup photobucket.com

nslookup http://www.photobucket.com
(grr, fucking autolinks - take off the http://, it should just be www . photobucket . com)

post results.

Xp Pro SP3....

Using the program and using my router's dns server (which is what i use)( i guess i could use 24.25.5.149 or 150 i hadnt thought of that) dammit...

anyway so I used the router and of course www . photobucket . com and it gives a Sucess window but no matter what i query it gives me NOTHING back. I mean the reply pops up but its empty.

[Edited on September 21, 2008 at 12:18 AM. Reason : good news is that didnt help a thing....cause the router uses that address anyway]

[Edited on September 21, 2008 at 12:18 AM. Reason : it auto linked]

add both www . photobucket . com and photobucket . com

i'm pretty sure this isn't going to help much, though, since they have a CDN (img385 . photobucket . com, img 389 . photobucket . com, etc.)

shoot me an IM sometime and i'll help you troubleshoot.

adding the photobucket.com without the www seemed to help but i dont know about viewing the pics...

i suppose i could just get foxyproxy and enable it if i choose to view photobucket stuff it's just the damndest thing.

afer installing foxy proxy and installing the vidalia bundle again I remembered I had done that before...and hated it.

So I got rid of that and decided I would figure out all of the sites I wanted to view on photobucket and manually add them to hosts before I view them.

There are now 6 lines just dedicated to photobucket alone in hosts and sure to be more. Not only that but I had to add another group of sites to it.... So my hosts file is going to be buckets of fun from now on.

Honestly, I'm getting tired of making it un-read-only then read-only again.

you could implement the HOSTS settings on your router... but I think the problem is on your network somewhere. I would start with ipconfig /flushdns then I'd try connecting to it.

let me direct you back to my first post where i clearly say:

ALSO the problem is specific to MY computer not any other computer on my network.
