I'm going to paraphrase what most people are thinking before reading this article: "Does he photoshop boobs or something?" 9/21/2008 11:41:08 PM |

I photoshop the hell out of my model pics. People are always shocked to see the before and after pics. My instructors tell me not to show the before picture to the clients as it may cause depression in insecure people (mainly women). opps.
There's a shift in mainstream photography right now to realistic, but soft skin. Just last year, everyone was crazed with silky smooth skin with no pores and unrealistic body proportions. I've asked a lot of pros about it and most contribute the movement as just a 'fad' and they were right. Everyone in the industry is updating their portfolio and most portrait photographers went back to contemporary styles once more. Although fixing of the eye's, removing blemishes and other small details are still worked on. 9/22/2008 12:01:05 AM |

i know thats an example, but why would anybody think to shoot that bitch in the first place...her boobs look pretty good regardless of the shop, but the face, eyes, hand, are terrible 9/22/2008 12:03:19 AM |

honestly, budget is probably the #1 constraint. The lighting isn't the best or flattering for the model either since the main source is high up, it produces a very high contrast picture. You'd usually use a fill reflector or light to reduce the shadows under the eyes and pores if that's the desired effect. One more thing, if you work with a pro makeup artist and hair stylist, many of these factors can be addressed before you even take the picture and reduce your post processing time, but that costs $$$.
With the 1st example, it would be hard pressed to even fix that model in real life just because of how contrasty it is. Although a good foundation and a pound of makeup could fix it. Its either 2 hours of makeup to get the same results or 2 hours of photoshop. If you are good at photoshop, it probably would be easy to fix and take less time (and cost less).
