I landed in the beautiful Azores today at Lajes Field, walked inside, and before I could even take my flight gear off, they put a beer in my hand. drank it and debriefed, and a Lt Col walked in and invited us to help finish the beer and food from a party they'd had...left there and checked into the nicest military lodging I've ever stayed at...and am about to get picked up by a good looking AF chick to go out for the night (another hot AF chick I know who was stationed here for a while set us up)

9/27/2008 1:25:27 PM
i'm voting for Duke
9/27/2008 1:27:43 PM
It's unfair to compare our servicewomen to the ones from the IDF - the Israelis are entirely conscripted and women are required by law to serve 2 years. So of course there are going to be a lot of babes - they HAVE to serve.
9/27/2008 1:29:55 PM
^^^^ i don't know that it's bought with tax dollars
9/27/2008 1:31:25 PM

10/2/2008 1:21:16 PM
AF and Navy typically have better looking women than the other one, i would say 2 but marines are really just navy.
10/2/2008 1:23:27 PM
my tax money better not pay for that beer
10/2/2008 1:47:39 PM
who knows...but whatever...i probably used about $100-150k worth of jet fuel in the last week, and probably at LEAST $40k (not to mention the other operating costs associated with flying a 25-30 year old warplane halfway around the world) in the 6.5 hours before I drank those beers, so what's another 2 bucks?
10/2/2008 1:53:38 PM
but multiply that 2 bucks of tax money by even a tenth of the people in our armed forces and you've got quite a few ivory backscratchers
10/2/2008 1:58:45 PM
Ah, Duke well done! We need to meet up when you return to the NC.
10/2/2008 2:01:40 PM
it would be nowhere near a tenthit would be nowhere near 1/100thmy guess is that it's funded on its own. for example, we have a coffee mess fund in our squadron--we keep drinks in the fridge for 50 cents, snack foods for 50 cents or a dollar, etc. It pays for itself and then some (popcorn and coffee are both free). Every squadron I've ever heard of also has monthly dues for at least the officers. so again, i can't confirm that this drop in the bucket expense wasn't footed by the taxpayers, but that's not where I would bet my money...and it would be about # 1,000,000 on the priority list for getting rid of gov't waste, anyway.Oh, and while we're here on deployment, we can eat all we want in the chow hall for free, even though I continue to get my $180/month or whatever it is for food allowance. our squadron gets all the canned iced lattes (like starbucks doubleshots, except generic brand), energy drinks (again, generic)j, and Gatorade that we want. This very well may be on the gov't dime, although I don't know for absolutely sure. In addition, we're getting paid tax-free (minus SS and Medicare, the two biggest money wasters of them all). shit, i've heard that our SIMULATOR costs something like a few thousand dollars/hour to operate. I wouldn't sweat that portuguese beer.haha, i remember numerous occasions where i've finished a field exercise and expended a bunch of flares, smokes, blank ammunition, etc in the middle of a field just because if it didn't get used, it wouldn't get budgeted for the next time. stupid system, but we couldn't change it...only circumvent it.[Edited on October 2, 2008 at 2:15 PM. Reason : asdfads][Edited on October 2, 2008 at 2:15 PM. Reason : ^ yeah dude...it'll be a while, though]

10/2/2008 2:20:22 PM
bragging about how our tax dollars pay for your beer is a pretty douchey thing to do, military or not
10/2/2008 2:23:45 PM
even if the guys there paid for the beer, wouldn't their salary most likely be paid by our taxes? I know that the military has ways of generating its own money but still, chances are our tax dollars paid for it.not that I give a shit, its just a fucking beer.
10/2/2008 2:23:58 PM
it's one thing to earn taxpayer money for doing a job and then spending itit's another to spend taxpayer money on beer

well once they cash their pay check its their money and they can do with it as they pleaseall said if my tax money is going to buy one of the guys putting his life on the line so I don't have to a beer, i have absolutely no problem with that

jesus christ, even if that .0000000001 of a cent of my taxed income went toward duke's beer, hell i think he's earned it. i'll buy him another one, full price. our government burns a lot more of our tax money on more frivolous things than brew for our soldiers. shut the fuck up about your damn tax dollars, I'm sure half of you don't even pay taxes anyway. or at least bitch about something more worthy. and then do something about it. do you even know to whom you'd write?fucking armchair politics.[Edited on October 2, 2008 at 4:31 PM.
