Gonna be making the drive to Galveston... Looks like we'll be passing through Atlanta, Montgomery, Mobile, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and a couple others....Anyone made this trip (or similar)? Any Suggestions on stuff to see/do?Places to eat/drink?Spots to stay?Of course we can research the cities we're going through and plan our own trip but figured tww usually has some interesting stories/suggestions.ready.....GO!

My suggestion is to bring a few spare gasoline tanks considering that a lot of that area is basically out.

yeah- thought about the possibility as we were stuck in Ashevi8lle all day trying to find gas. Figure we are passing through some pretty decent sized metro cities and with our mpg we should be able to make it from city to city without trouble.

This proposed trip can't be something you're seriously thinking about doing in the near future with the gas situation.Charlotte's out of gas, I heard Atlanta was having a hard time too.

We went from Havelock to Houston. We had 5 drivers that we cycled through and drove non-stop. We didn't stop at anywhere in particular to eat or fill up. Also, states other than NC usually have a lower gas tax. It was a long drive.

^^^ I do hurricane relief and the pay is fantastic... Unfortunately they usually fly us out but aren;t going to be ready to do so for another month- If i make my own way out there I can get things rolling sooner and 30days equates to about $8000 so I'd say the pain in the ass trip is worth it. Why does it suck so bad?^^Leaving Wednesday [Edited on September 29, 2008 at 2:25 PM. Reason : .]

^^That being the case I would definitely bring an extra gas tank or two. And pump up the tires of your vehicle up to 40-44psi or so (I'm assuming its a car). And use your AC as little as possible while still keeping your windows closed.Good luck! lol
