i have a list im whittling down...or at least attempting to. Its tough though to compare certain bands/albums that are near polar opposites. :/ And I still have a small list of albums to get or ones I have that I have barely gotten to listen to.

I was listening to a bunch of stuff the other day and was going to do this but forgot...

Beck - Modern Guilt
Wolf Parade - Mount Zoomer
Cloud Cult - Feel Good Ghosts (Tea-Partying Through Tornadoes)
Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours
TV on the Radio - Dear Science
M83 - Saturdays=Youth
Okkervil River - The Stand Ins
Tokyo Police Club - Elephant Shell

that's all I can think of right now that I would consider to be a top album.

Bon Iver (I think it was released on Jagjaguwar in January or February, so I'm counting it)
Fleet Foxes

It hasn't really been a great year for great music

i haven't really loved anything that's come out this year, but i probably listened to the carter 3, feed the animals, and syclops "i've got my eye on you" more than others.. the fleet foxes album got old after two weeks (kind of like that peter bjorn and john album from last year)

These are the ones that have definitely made it:

Arsis - we are the nightmare
Protest the Hero - fortress
The Mars Volta - bedlam in goliath
Lovedrug - the sucker punch show
Fleet Foxes - s/t
Bon Iver - for emma, forever ago
Maps & Atlases - you & me & the mountain
empire! empire! (I was a lonely estate) - Year of the Rabbit 7"
Statehood - Lies and Rhetoric (carry over from the last month of 2007 but I didnt get it until this year)

I have others that I really like that I have gotten very recently and I havent had enough time to let them sink in and others that hit me strong at first but havent stuck with me that well (cult of luna, meshuggah, opeth, sigur ros, mogwai) and im still anticipating a new copeland release among a few others. Ill update this again towards the end of the year.

Jenny's Hangnail - Robot Visions

Man, I haven't heard of most of the bands listed. Either y'all only listen to indie shit, or I've become that old guy that can't listen to anything new.

Why can't it be both?

My list so far, semi-off the top of my head:
Fleet Foxes - Ragged Wood
Ra Ra Riot - The Rhumb Line
TV on the Radio - Dear Science,
Black Kids - Partie Traumatic
Mates of State - Re-Arrange Us
She and Him - Volume One

^i've enjoyed each one of those as well.

i think the okkervil river album has probably been my most played. Its just so complete front to back.

i'm trying to pull up some of these others that have been listed that i have not yet heard.

I def. need to listen to The Stand Ins some more--it just doesn't seem as amazing as The Stage Names right off the bat, so I haven't really given it a good listen.

m83 - saturday=youth
fleet foxes - s/t
cut copy - in ghost colours
girl talk - feed the animals

those are about the only albums i'd support for a "top album" position.

i play the hell out of tokyo police club - elephant shell, but i don't think it's as solid an album to compete with the big boys.

^ i enjoyed it but it didnt stick with me well at all, got old fast.

^^ I liked their last one as well, this one didnt go over too well with me first listen. I'll give it another go somewhere down the line.

^^^ I still need to check out the new Hold Steady. and The Gaslight Anthem album is good, I just got it though last week so I still need time to let it sink it. But so far it has a chance to be one of my favorites this year.

^I wasn't feeling Stay Positive at first and was kind of disappointed, but the more I've listened to it the more I like it, probably not as good as Boys and Girls in America or Separation Sunday but it's excellent nonetheless

Well, for what it's worth, I am NOT a huge Mates of State fan and I think Re-Arrange Us was way better than anything else of theirs I'd heard. That might be why

I forgot Cool Hand Luke's "The Sleeping House." Its a really solid record and one of my favorites of this year that I just forgot in my first post, my only big knock on it is the same knock I have on the new Copeland. Both albums are extremely piano heavy with very sparse guitar. Now, this is normally no big deal but both bands had a bit more oomph in the past that I feel is missing.

free leech on waffles so i'm checking out some of these albums everybody has been talking about -- i wait until free leech to do this sort of thing because a) my ratio sucks balls and b) i usually hate what's hip in the music scene nowadays but

this fleet foxes is pretty sweet

also, i'm enjoying the new metallica on my first listen
