I have read a few guides but im still a little confused.

my goal: Download movies/tv episodes. Boot up my xbox, browse my shared folder where I downloaded the movie, play it through my xbox on my TV.

I am planning on setting up my xbox using two NICs. Once that is done, the best dashboard i have found is "XBoxMediaCenter (XBMC)". Apparently it can play divx and all the crap.

Once i get the dashboard setup, can i just share folders on my pc and im good to go? XBMC can access it and stream movies through my pc or do I need to FTP them do my xbox?

I would like to avoid FTP everything i download over to my xbox.

Any help or a just a "yeah you got he idea" would help. thanks.

yes, you can access windows/samba shares through XBMC, you should be good to go.

Just make sure everything is SD. The xbox isn't powerful enough to play anything 720p or higher.

If you use Tversity, you can stream HD stuff from your PC. Of course it transcodes it on the fly, so you don't actually see the benefits of HD, but it's better than nothing.
