So I've decided that growing up and having a real, responsible job is the suck. Life was much better when I was a worthless college student waiting tables. I think I actually had MORE money at that point in my life, and maybe half the stress. I also had friends, which is something I dearly miss.

No real point to this thread, just missing my old life. Free thread

i seriously dont think you could pay me to go back to college. it was fun and all but im so over taking tests and studying. i much prefer to read about topics of interest on my own time

i enjoy going to work and contributing. i also have more money than in college so that helps too

That's probably because you were on a Waverunner instead of a Sea Doo.

I wouldn't mind a Sea Doo jet boat either. That would make a pretty sweet commuter boat. You could load up your gear, anchor it in like 2 feet of water, and party on an island for a few days before surrendering to the fact that your old age requires rest between party sessions.

I mean really, what's the damn point? We're all working our asses of for a few pennies while the economy tanks. We're being raped of our wages by social security which won't even exist when we retire (which we prolly won't even be able to do that at this point.) Do I really want to spend the next 50 years working for absolutely nothing? Not really.

Can't think of a better reason to eat the business end of a revolver than all this crap. I gotta get some sleep. Fuck it.

I think the point might be that you have to start somewhere and it's better than waiting tables. I mean, if you think you'll still be doing this when you're like 50 years old then you might have a point. If not, then suck it up and invest in this shitty economy of ours. You'll thank me when it gets better.

you could always not get a job

sit at home and cry about how the government isnt taking care of you

and all the shit you deserve and are entitled to

like healthcare and social security

even though you're too good to contribute to the system

there is always that option

its working out for lots of people!

ceilingcat, dont give up. you'll find something you truly enjoy

the best part about a job you love is that it provides you the financial ability and freedom to engage in the activities you really enjoy.

when you're able to do everything you love, going to work is enjoyable

if you really dont like your job, put yourself in a position to move into a job you do enjoy. nothing is more satisfying than enjoying how you spend everyday, in and out of work.

good luck, seriously. i was just hating on the free loaders of the world

Sometimes doing your ideal job can make you miserable actually

depends on how hard your job is

but if easy shit doesn't make your life worth it then you're stuck in this position

ah well

how did you have more money while being a waiter in college? what is your current job? what was your major? did you move to take the job?

maybe instead of being a waiter you should have gotten some relevant experience?

meh

I love my real job. Plenty of $$ for now, and later (I get to save a lot). Def. the most money i've ever made. The company takes really good care of us employees. I also get to contribute to society, and my country, along with tons of volunteer activities. On top of all of that, my company is extremely prominent in my community and surrounding areas...so I'm granted a good deal of respect and authority outside of work.

Fuck that. Who says you have to live in the status quo? What about all the artists, musicians, actors, and other people who work those enjoyable jobs? They ARE out there, you just have to go out and get them. Everyone is too fucking complacent and just works their 9-5 job day in and day out. They never take any chances in life.

i'd love to do that

i also enjoy having disposable income

in the vast majority of cases, the two cannot coexist.

Yeah, I COULD play jazz trombone for a living...

Or I could live in a house that isn't owned by my parents.

I'm not saying that I litterally had more money waiting tables; I just had more disposable income. I make decent money but the bills keep getting bigger and the paychecks stay the same. It sucks. Guess I shouldn't look at the finances while tired/depressed/having a drink. Ugh.

What's stopping you from working a part-time job bartending or something while recording music and performing at live locations?

Sure, you couldn't live in a $500,000 home, but it beats working at GENERITECH making copies all day. At least you're doing what you love.

Remember, from age 20 to 60 you'll be spending 8 hours (33%!!) of your 24 hour day doing work. That's over 13 YEARS of solid work. You only get one life. You might as well spend it doing something you love. Fuck being wealthy.
