It mostly consists of small, easy words or actions. Like "Thank you", "Please", acknowledging other people's communications and kind gestures, or using your blinkers.

So why in the bloody fuck is there such a dearth of it?

If we stopped calling it "common" then there wouldn't be a problem.

IT CONSISTS OF FLUSHING LARGE LOGS AND DIARRHEA PILES LEFT IN THE TOILET.

OH, AND IF YOUR FAT BITCH OF A GIRLFRIEND LEAVES A DIARRHEA PILE SO LARGE THAT THE RAW SHIT IS COMPLETELY ABOVE THE WATER LINE AND I ASK YOU TO FLUSH THE GOD DAMNED TOILET, YOU'D BETTER FUCKING DO IT RATHER THAN TELL ME TO FLUSH YOUR FAT BITCH'S DIARRHEA PILE AND RISK HAVING BUBBLES POP A PIECE OF THAT RHEEE RHEEE ON MY FUCKING LEGS/FEET SON.

aha, there are some people up here in NY that exercise common courtesy. But the majority of the time, it doesn't happen.

let someone into traffic, they don't wave. they just drive on
open a door for someone, there's no 'thank you'. they just walk in

crazy

I know you were.
I'm just saying that the people who value fishing, or other similar activities, tend to be the ones who have some fucking manners.

I.e., I'm agreeing with you totally, in different words.

Actually, yeah, it does.
As well as not leaving menstrual drips on toilets in public restrooms:

That was last week at CoT.

I gave up a looooooooooooooooong time ago on common courtesy from strangers. People with whom I willingly interact, or who volunteer for a common cause? It's not unreasonable to have some very basic expectations.

Me too.
I cannot believe it.
I was raised to speak to people. Smile. Shake hands. Be polite. Make small talk. Be a decent human being.
But some people.
Hmph.

I hated working in retail. I had no idea how rude people could be. The least you can do is smile.

Meh.

Smiling is sometimes VERY difficult.
But being civil is incredibly easy. Like, almost as easy as breathing. So I really don't understand why so many people don't do it.

I smile at everyone, even when they are shitty to me. I feel like I win when someone tries to be an ass to me and all I do is smile back. I guess it's why I am in sales. I like to smile, and I do it often

Speaking of. . .

I'm watching the news and that guy that was knowingly spreading AIDS is STILL doing it. Just got in trouble for violating his probation by not wearing a condom.

That is not courteous. No sir e. bob.

And how do you have unprotected sex with someone who has been all over TV for spreading AIDS?
AND how do you get caught for not wearing a condom???

I was randomly curteous to someone today who turned out to be the principal of the school I was working at.

Just a thought.

yea like people don't get that in traffic circles yield means yield. not everyone is going to turn off the circle where you are yielding so you should probably wait. sometimes you have to go 1/2 way around the circle to get to where you want to go.

And I just don't feel comfortable darting out in front of someone just because their turn signal is on... sometimes they just leave it on and forget about it. I wait until they've slowed all the way down, which of course pisses of the person behind me, but I can't take that risk.

This has paid off for me so many times.
There was this lady I started seeing a lot at work. At first, I thought she was there for a weeklong seminar. Turns out, she's the head boss of ...everything. Her work hours had changed since another upper had left. And man, was I glad that I was unfailingly polite, professional, and upbeat. I mean, I love my job and all, but I routinely go the extra mile all the time, and especially in greeting folks, making them feel welcome, etc.

If you have but one assumption while driving, let it be that every other driver is a homicidal idiot. If you have two assumptions, assume they're out to passively cause as many accidents as possible.

Working with the public makes you bitter.

I'm an introvert by nature, and frankly it wouldn't bother me much if I woke up tomorrow and 3/4 of the world's population had just up and died.

That said, when I do interact with people in a social setting I am polite and professional. I don't actually care about you or mean what I say, but you'd never know it and I make sure to fake the shit out of that sincerity. There is definitely something to be said about having pride in your own behavior and expecting people to observe polite behaviors.
