There are some intriguing matchups that could take place for the BCS National title game this year.

Here are a few:

Texas vs. USC - Rematch of 05 title game

Alabama vs. Penn State - Rematch 79 sugar bowl title game

Texas vs. Oklahoma - unlikely but possible, OU is #4 in BCS

USC vs. Ohio State - I just puked a lil in my mouth as I typed that

Georgia vs. USC - the two best teams at the end of last year

Florida vs. Texas - 2 huge fan bases, Tebow vs Colt

Florida vs. USC - 2 most athletic teams in the country

LSU vs Ohio State - Rematch of last years title game

Florida vs. Ohio State - Rematch of 06 title game

USC vs. Alabama - Saban vs Carroll, possibly the 2 most powerful coaches in college football

USC vs. Oklahoma - Rematch of 04 title game

Georgia vs. Oklahoma - Stafford vs. Bradford winner is #1 draft pick

except for LSU of course

there are definitely some good possible matchups...but I think if Ohio State gets in this year it will be the biggest bullshit in the history of college football

Michigan-Ohio State

It's only fair the nation gets the rematch that it demands. This is as fair a matchup as it would've been two years ago...

At this point I have to go with Penn St. vs Texas, I dont give Alabama a chance of surviving the rest of the SEC along with a title game without a loss

So if Penn St. wins and stays third for the rest of the year, they won't get in over Bama and UT if they remain undefeated. If tOSU wins by 144 they won't get in over Bama and UT if they remain undefeated. Big 10 is a lonnnnnnnnnnng shot at the title game this year...

non conference champs should never play for the NC in the BCS format....just another reason that this system is broken.

As they fucking should be. Any Big 10 team is gonna get rolled by USC, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, and any other Big 12/SEC team that's up there.

Big 10 is not that big of a long shot

if penn state wins at OSU, then they will more than likely win out and play for the national title

Texas and/or Alabama will lose at least once, both have to play conference title games

remainder of penn state schedule after saturday

@ Iowa 5-3
vs. Indiana 2-5
vs. Mich State 6-2 but just got blown out 45-7 at home

Ohio State is #9 in BCS, definitely not that long of a shot to make title especially if there only loss is a cross country loss to HIGHLY ranked USC

Penn State definitely has a shot if they continue to run the table, but Ohio State should not even be in the discussion

^but their loss to USC was a blowout loss

what happens if OSU and oklahoma win out, and all the others lose at least one?

Texas would have to lose the big 12 championship.

wouldn't that be some shit

Well, if a Big 10 team happens to make it, I'll put take out a second mortgage and take whoever they're playing. 5 week layoff before the NC game? Gimme a break....

BTW, USC would make it over OSU if they don't lose again, same with like 6 other teams...

Shit they're more likely to take a one loss BYU team over tOSU

hey i hate Ohio State but its not that unlikely that they get back into the title game

Ohio State is #9 right now in BCS

- they will probably beat the #3 team this saturday
- 4 teams ahead of them in BCS are Big 12, three will lose again because they play each other
- Georgia/ Alabama cannot both win out because of title game

thats 6 teams ahead of them that WILL fall

they win out and they are definitely top 3 in BCS

i just dont see any way they make it to the title game a 3rd year in a row, when they've gotten absolutely embarrassed the last 2 years...it wont happen...if it does i might literally consider boycotting college football

I read somewhere that USC as a school would actually get more revenue from missing out on the NC and going to the rose bowl instead.

^Well, they'd sell a shitload of tickets for sure, don't know where else the discrepancy would be, except for travel costs.

^^^^ The only thing is the "probably". They are underdogs on the National stage. Also, a one loss Big 12 team this year>one loss tOSU team.

USC will have to lose again for OSU to have a chance....if they don't, you're probably gonna have either a 1 loss SEC team and/or a 1 loss big 12 team and a 1 loss USC team. No way OSU jumps over a 1 loss USC team after the beat down head to head....if anything, USC's fate depends on OSU winning out to make that win look better.

^I think it was tickets combined with the rose bowl big 10/pac-10 contract stipulations

Yeah, the payouts for the Rose or BCS game are the same, so the amount of ticket revenue + much less travel/entertainment costs = a higher payout.

You could have shorten the first post by putting Georgia/Florida instead of listing them separately seeing that one will be officially eliminated from NC consideration in a couple of weeks.

Just looked, if tOSU actually gets in (somehow) they'd play 47 days after their last game. 6 weeks, 5 days after their last game...

florida is out. done for. finished. even if they somehow win out they have a loss to ole miss there is no way they are ahead of a 1 loss big10 champ that lost to usc or possibly undefeated big10 champ. a 1 loss (oklahoam, okstate, tech) or possibly undefeated big12 champ. lsu right now is 20s in some computers they won't make it up either without the secchamp game.

ohio state with their only loss coming early on the road to usc with an old qb will not be denied. haven't you guys learned this yet?

unless the big12 beats each other up they will be playing the winner of this weekends big10 championship game and the sec will have the bcs removed.

so the wildcard is bama. i'm hoping they can run the table with penn state and texas to really do this system in.

you know who else is out, done for, finished? ohio state

florida is still very much alive, or did you miss a TWO loss SEC team getting in last year?

as much as I dont think Ohio State (to this point in the season) deserves to play for the national championship, it's not out of the question. Yes, the voters and most of america doesn't want to see, but keep in mind the computers have a big say in the BCS standings.

You're right it is possible for them to make it just like its possible for Utah. Its just not likely. Last year everybody kept losing.

alabama
penn state
ohio state
oklahoma
texas(2x)
texas tech(2x if texas is undefeated)
oklahoma state(2x if texas is undefeated)
and maybe even usc

all have to lose for florida to get in. those are some pretty dominant teams and I'm pretty sure florida will lose another game and it won't be an issue.

Im pretty sure it will be big12 vs big10 (texas vs penn state anyone?)

Agreed on non-conference champs being ineligible. If Im supposed to buy that "the regular season is a playoff", then no way should you be in the title game if you didnt win your conference title (and especially if you werent even in the conference title game).

Florida is very much ALIVE

any SEC team with 1 loss right now is alive

If florida wins out, they will make the title game, nothing else has to happen

The 1 loss SEC champion will be in the title game no matter what, even over an unbeaten Penn State

now put that in your pipe and smoke it

^^^bad logic. lets say oklahoma plays ohio state, usc and lsu in the nonconference, beats them all then loses to texas who loses to iowa state, tcu, arkansas, and washinton state. Texas wins the division. Now you're telling me that if ohio state wins the big10, usc wins the pac10, lsu wins the sec, and the bigeast/acc teams have 2 or more losses that ou doesn't deserve to be in the title game?

If hypothetically OU was to kick three top 5 teams ass and then lose to a team that was beaten by four shit teams, you really think they deserve a shot at the NC?

Yep, if you don't win your own conference I don't feel like you should be able to win a NC. One should be a stepping stone to another, unless there is some sort of playoff at large system.

I know this would screw over a conference that has the 2 best teams, but that is life. The rewards of being in the SEC lets say(getting into NC games with 1 or even 2 losses) should also have some disadvantages, one being that you aren't getting in if you don't win your conference.

An issue I have with these championship games and OU situation, is that they might actually be helped by losing to Texas. Lets say Texas runs the table, but then loses in this championship game. OU keeps winning, and isn't forced to play this tough end of the year game, they'll end up leaping Texas and enter the championship game. This has already happened btw. So the championship games can help and hurt, but win your conference.
