NC State (2-5, 0-3)
at
Maryland (5-2, 2-1)
(Byrd Stadium)

Game time: 3:30

The Terps are 11 point favorites and have beaten California, Clemson, Wake Forest, while losing to Virginia and Middle Tennessee State.

The Pack's only FBS win comes from the upset over now lackluster East Carolina.

With a win, Maryland would be on the brink of bowl eligibility and put State on the bubble.

Chevy Chase Bank Field at Byrd Stadium
Capacity: 51,500 (record: 58,973 November 1, 1975 #9 Penn State vs. #14 Maryland)
Opened: September 30, 1950
Construction cost: $1 million

Byrd Stadium for most of it's history was a horseshoe shaped stadium with a capacity of 34,680. On a few occasions temporary seating was brought it to up capacity for big games. It remained relatively untouched though until 1991, when the five-story Tyser Tower, featuring luxury suites and an expanded press area, was completed on the south side of the stadium, as well as the Gossett Football Team House adjacent to the east endzone. In front of the field house is a bronze statue of a Terrapin that the team rubs as they come out onto the field. In 1995, the stadium's capacity was raised to 48,055 with the construction of a massive, but ugly upper deck on the north side of the stadium. When Maryland won the ACC in 2001 excitement about the program forced the program to add temporary bleachers around the top of the concourse that boosted the capacity by 3,000 to its current capacity. Other improvements in 2002 included the addition of a jumbotron to the east endzone and an expansion to the fieldhouse. A second jumbotron in the west endzone was completed prior to the 2008 season. Byrd Stadium is currently undergoing an expansion of Tyser Tower in order to add more luxury seating to bring in more money and improve the overall tower. A second phase of expansion will add a double decked structure to the west endzone and boost capacity to between 60-65,000. It is quite the ugly stadium, but at least they have finally repainted the roofs of the structures surrounding the stadium (concessions, restrooms, ticket office, etc.) from Carolina blue to black.

Notice the ugly Carolina blue painted roofs

What it used to look like in the early 1950s.

Future expansion

It looked better in the 50s. Even the new renditions (which almost always look awesome) look like shit.

^^^^^ Does Maryland sell out enough to justify the expansion in that last picture anytime soon?

Sadly, Ive been to Byrd Stadium once, and it was for Finals in 2000...never for a football game.

This game is on ESPN360...anyone found ways to watch this, or know of bars that may be showing it? I have a friend that may be able to hook me up with a Verizon login, but other options are nice too....

They sell out in good seasons and they also host lacrosse championships sometimes and lacrosse is huge in Maryland.

i'll be there, from my past visits I can confirm that it is just as ugly, if not uglier in person.

maybe we can continue the trend of Maryland losing to bad teams and beating good teams?

GO PACK!

I think it's possible our game would make it on the ESPN College Football Overdrive thing they do on ESPN Classic or ESPNU (I can't remember which one), but I've seen them pick up games that were supposedly only on 360 before...it's also on at the same time our game is on so I'm hopeful (otherwise I'll catch it on the radio)

Its on ESPNews...but they dont show much of the game...maybe 5 or so minutes here and there, and then possibly the end of the game if its a tight game.

^ The quality is fairly decent, for a streaming video. It just lags a lot, but you can fill about 75% of your screen with no pixelation.

I'm not sure how much it costs, but I thought it went by carrier provision (wherein you get it for free).

apparently TWC doesent provide ESPN360. I am guessing Playmakers is on an ISP that does?

Where else will the game be shown other than playmakers?

I have learned of a work around for ESPN360, BUT I need the help of someone who IS capable of viewing ESPN360.

In a nut shell, there is a firefox addon called SESSION MANAGER, which copies the current state of firefox windows/tabs/etc. If you have espn360 open and playing and Then save the session it should allow anyone who opens that session (regardless of ISP) to view ESPN360.

- You need to have the latest version of Mozilla Firefox
- Install the Session Manager add-on
- Open ESPN360 and save the 'session'

PLEASE someone who can view ESPN360 try this and send me PM of the session to try out.
