Thought I'd make a new thread because the other one is over two years old.

Mother 3, the sequel to Earthbound, has finally been translated (or at least I just find out about it). I've been playing for a couple of days and it's pretty good. Anyone else out there given it a try yet?

I lied, found a translated rom saves some hassle.

God I'm glad this is finally out. Been monitoring the translation forever but I hadn't checked on it in a while.

I'm actually impressed by how challenging this game is. I've had to play every boss multiple times and the regular enemies can take you down if you aren't careful. Good game so far.

How do you do the combos? I've accidentally done them a few times.

listen to the beat of the background music playing in the battles, and try to mash the attack button to the beat of the music to get a combo going

Easiest way is to use Duster's ability to put them to sleep, then you can hear the rhythm pounding.

It's really easy to get 16-hit combos that way.

This game is awesome. I haven't had any time to play anything but I've been jonesing for it. Reminds me of how into Earthbound I got back in the day.

Here's praying that if a series like Fallout can be resurrected then Mother may have a fighting chance.

next gen Mother? Mmmmm.

Mother 3 is going to be the last of series. Itoi has already said there isn't going to be another one.

Finally beat it. Not a bad game but it was about as linear as I can stand an RPG to be. My only other complaint was that Duster and Boney were pretty much no help (edit: on bosses) most of the game unless you stock them up with food items or bombs to throw everywhere.

Well, I'm playing this game a second time now. If you copy your game that you beat over to the second slot and start a new game and save to the second slot, you start out with all your weapons and psi you had at the end of the game. The items thing has worked for lucas but we'll have to see about the psi and the others.

Finished this last night. What a fucking amazing game. Definitely in my top 3 RPGs of all time. EarthBound was my number 1 favorite RPG ever, but after completing this game, it's damn near a tie. An excellent game, and very fulfilling. It's a shame there won't be another game in the series, this is probably the most fun I've ever had playing an RPG.

^ I really did not have that experience at all. I freaking loved Earthbound. It is one of the first RPGs I ever played, I remember getting earthbound with the strategy guide for christmas and not turning the snes off till I had finished it. This game I just didn't get that much from. Part of it were the characters, in Earthbound I thought they established them a little bit better, but in 3 it seemed like they just wrote down some character names and that was about it. Duster was really the only one who got much background. And I really didn't like having Boney, seemed like a copout.

And I really wish there had been more explanation on what happened post Earthbound. Why was Dr. Andonauts working for Pokey?

I just didn't get the same feel from 3 as I did from Earthbound. I think I'm going to go replay Earthbound now.

^ I don't really think the level of details they put into the characters was much different from EarthBound. All the details you got in EB just explained where the character came from, and that sort of thing, but nothing really past that, and it's the same way in M3. I thought Boney was cool in m3 because of the humorous situations he presented, like dressing up as a human in club titiboo. The thing that I liked most about M3 is the escalation; you can literally see the island change for the worse over the course of the game. Couple that with all the crazy shit that keeps flying your way during the last few chapters, and it becomes nearly impossible to put the game down. The elevator ride through the Empire Porky Building is now probably one of my favorite moments in gaming, period.

I just finished this game earlier today. Loved it. It reminded me of how much I liked Earthbound back in the day. I'm with parentcanpay, I thought it was just as good.
